House Republicans Are In Total Disarray
July 28, 2018 at 12:46 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

Stan Collender: “When the House reconvenes, the GOP plans to devote a significant amount of the limited time it has left before fiscal 2019 begins to three tax cut bills that have no chance of being enacted any time soon because…wait for it…the Republican-controlled Senate has already said it’s not interested.”

“And none of this even begins to anticipate what the House Republicans who are running for reelection and think they will need to energize the Trump base will do in September as the Manafort trial and Cohen investigations continue and as the Mueller probe moves forward.”

“In other words, this year’s legislative crunch time is about to get very real but House Republicans have little leadership, no plan, a very divided caucus, are very likely to be distracted and are relying on a notoriously unreliable Donald Trump to do the right thing.”

“This is almost a textbook definition of political and legislative chaos.

I don't give a damn about Trump, throw that trash into the garbage where he belongs.

President Obama dragged a moribund republican congress to do the nation's business for 6 years, the poster that you replied to seems to have fucking forgot that. And President Obama DID NOT make the rich richer through legislation, all of them got richer from investment value increases and better performance from their businesses, all caused by a growing economy.

in its sights. Taking over the party completely, getting rid of Paul Ryan as the Speaker. While the establishment fights to maintain control, get everyone on board with common issues (which they do have), and have the members fall in line, like Republicans normally do.

You have members criticizing the Speaker of their own party. Not a good sign for them. Though Ryan may not care, since he's leaving Congress.

power within the party against its establishment majority. Typical wired-to-dissent behavior. The party leadership is in a fight for national power against Democrats while trying to elbow back this crippling internal nuisance.

But so true that Republican voters, regardless of which faction they support, will unite against us "like Republicans normally do." Obedient infantry in a human wave attack.

extreme left leaners aren't planning on do the same thing to the Dems. We finally have a chance to take over the House. We have seen many time how extreme left or right is not the way to win. We have to appeal to the Dems and independents to win the midterms.

what matters is who can win in each state & district. Not the direction of the party. The candidates will come from and reflect their districts. Sometimes moderate, sometimes far left. What's important is that who runs has a good chance of winning in that district, and I think everyone recognizes that.

The Presidency is where the far left and moderate left may wrestle. But first things first. Let's win back the Senate & House!

Governing is not about society anymore: It's only buying votes. No one is watching the store, and the value of our currency is plummetting because we are a society of greed and pettyness. We stand for nothing. We can be relied upon to screw everyone else for a dime, giving no thought to the future.

we need to be united and vote Democratic up and down the line. We have no time for infighting. We have to work to beat the crap out of the repubs. Get electoral wins and then work to make the changes you want. As we have seen electorally, no far right or left appeals to the majority of voters. Remember 50 + 1 is how you win.

Sun Jul 29, 2018, 11:45 AM

AFTER we win, then we can drill down into the business at hand.

Winning comes first, and remains the highest priority. You can only govern if you win.

You only get subpoena power if you WIN.

You only get to chair all the committees if you WIN.

You only get to set the agenda in those committed if you WIN.

You only get to decide what is allowed to come up for a vote and what gets shelved if you WIN.

Vince Lombardi once said “winning is not a sometime thing, it’s the ONLY thing. And there’s only room for one place, and that’s FIRST place.” My dad had a plaque made of that quote and kept it hung in his office in a prominent place, throughout his entire working life.

Not rocket science. We need to win first, and then start cleaning up the mess, contain the Trumpster and his odious enablers and put the country back on the rails.

We get to redecorate after the fire is dampened, not before.

Vote for Dems up and down the ballot. Then we win and the real work begins.

They just know they can’t use the magic wand of reconciliation until after this fiscal year ends on September 30. Further tax cut bills would die in the senate, and I’m sure McConnell would rather spend his time voting on more hard right judicial ideologues to screw up our courts for a generation. At least for the next 2 months.

I’m sure the bait and switch will come on 10/1. There will be a hard push to pass legislation while they still hold the House, and before several members of the traitor party are sent packing. They sense the reckoning coming, but it’s still a long way to January even if the democrats take control. This will be an eventful “lame duck” session, and not for the public good.

happening now before posting. I haven't been keeping up with their depressing plans this summer, and even briefly forgot the mostly politically safe court packing. Thanks for the info on that hard push now. The risks they're willing to take regarding their control of the senate are interesting. Or does it signal an assurance that something will happen to save them? In any case, their donors have their own interests and demands.

Agree smart was the wrong word for this miserable crew.
