Romney's already crossed the line, says President wants to 'keep us from being one nation under God'

from Jed Lewison at Kos: http://www.alternet.org/rss/breaking_news/758010/mitt_romney_plays__the_hate_card/

Mitt Romney embraces the GOP base's unadulterated hatred of President Obama:

Mitt Romney ended his third of four rallies today by charging up the most spirited crowd for him all week with a verbal fusillade aimed right at President Barack Obama.

"I think President Obama wants to make us a European style welfare state, where instead of being a merit society we're an entitlement society, where government's role is to take from some and give to others," Romney told the crowd.

"What I know is if they do that, they'll substitute envy for ambition, and they'll poison the very spirit of America and keep us from being one nation under God," Romney said, leveling rhetoric at the president that he had not used before.

Also, to them, anybody who doesn't want a Theocracy is obviously an evil, godless Liberal who wants Communism.

That means wealth redistribution through taxes and providing for the Common good.

Mitten's an idiot.

Congratulations to the photographer though - Nice shot (well, he could have made Mittens a little more blurry).

To see this read the sentence if the "under God" were left out - that is something that Romney has said many times. Obama promised to be a uniter and he has been a divider - type comments.

Yet, it is clear that he wants people to take it as saying Obama does not see the US exceptionalism as a country under God.

This is a blatant dog whisper.

his dad hadn't been the CEO of American Motors.

When he talks about merit and entitlement, it's laughable.

I'm perfectly fine with Obama not flaunting his religion. The people who constantly invoke religion tend to be the biggest hypocrites IMO.

That's what makes the attempt to misrepresent the President's beliefs as outside of the American mainstream such a dangerous and divisive tactic. There's absolutely no proof of what Romney claims, but attacks like this from folks who are supposed to be providing leadership threaten to fracture much more than just a candidate's prospects. Romney wants to exploit those beliefs for a petty competition instead of encouraging or fostering an appreciation of our nation's diversity.

. . . even folks who I though were immune to it. It's an appeal to racists and those who are still looking for a way to define their sweet selves apart from responsibility for the problems that confront them. Gingrich was more direct in his 'Kenyian' nonsense, but the message is clear. Obama's not one of you; just as the FOX-fed generation of birthers and teabaggers suspected all along.

"your god," Willard. A lot of Christians don't see the god Mormons worship as being the "real god." Tread lightly, Willard, as your religious blither could further alienate the Republican base. On second thought, alienate away.
