Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she has 'at least 5 more years' on the Supreme Court. Her fans rejoice.

"Ruth Bader Ginsburg" was trending on Twitter Sunday night, and liberals across the internet panicked.

"My heart stopped for a moment," tweeted writer Wajahat Ali.

Dedicated RBG fans feared the worst. They refused to look up the news. They prayed. They offered their kidneys.

"I was on my way to the hospital to donate all my organs," wrote another fan. "Please be alive, please be alive, please be alive ... ," tweeted another.

Then, came a collective exhale. Her admirers soon realized that Ginsburg is very much alive, and that the news was that she does not plan on stepping down anytime soon. She said so during a speaking appearance Sunday following a performance in New York of "The Originalist," a play about the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

3. No one is indispensable. I wish she'd retired during the first year or two of Obama,

since she was already in her 70's and had had two bouts of cancer (including very serious pancreatic cancer). She could have been replaced by a much younger person without a concerning medical history.

But since she's here, now I have to hope she remains till the first year of the next Democrat's Presidency -- if we have another one.

4. In 2016, though, she had every reason to believe Obama

would be succeeded by a Democrat, Pnw. Remember, every poll up until the last weeks had Hillary far ahead of that depraved orange clown. The Republican controlled congress's approval ratings were in the teens, and the senate was basically secured and even the house astonishingly but increasingly believed to be takeable. In the end, pollsters were stunned at how they could all have been so completely wrong for so long. We now know they weren't, of course.

And at least we know notorious RBG is very much still on the job. We can't know that for sure about whoever would have succeeded her. We're all with you in hoping she's right about her 5 more years, of course.

5. In 2008 she was a 75 year old double cancer survivor. She could have retired

at 77 -- older than most people retire -- and been replaced by a good judge who was young and healthy.

Instead, she's 85 now and we're all desperately hoping she outlives DT's/Pence's Presidency. I wish we weren't in that position.

6. Certainly know what you mean. But it lmost doesn't matter.

Congress is about to approve another person on a Heritage Society list compiled of narrow and rigid ideologues who combine strong social and religious conservatism with libertarian economic convictions. This list was chosen very carefully. We cannot expect the growth of past appointees once they're on SCOTUS from these.

It's hard to know, but notorious RBG is a heroine to many. It may be that, since her vote will mean little, her presence and writings will have the greatest impact, advanced age inspiring in a national symbol. Seriously, I'm almost talking myself into believing this could be for the best. It may be.
