Last night, I was cooling off up in the hills and caught this NPR broadcast of the Commonwealth Club's interview with Malcolm Nance. I believe it's from a show earlier this month. I'm fairly familiar with his writing but this is the first time I've heard him interviewed. All I can say is Holy Cow - hearing him talk is a whole 'nother animal. I was glued to my camp chair through the whole thing and thought I'd pass it on.

It's kind of long but, in my view, well worth it.

Malcolm Nance is a national treasure! He's a former naval intelligence officer and CIA agent. He understands the trappings of our national security and intelligence policies better than, maybe, anyone. When he opines on things, I always pay close attention and his warnings about our current state of affairs are nothing short of terrifying.

I love him, he clearly knows what is going on, and, as you point out, I sense that he thinks they won't get away with it. A friend of mine and I always say that as soon as he starts reporting in from Switzerland or somewhere, it's time for us to pack our bags.

24. Disingenuous about the US not interfering in other countries' affairs

Somewhere around 40 minutes in Malcolm Nance says that the US no longer interferes in other countries' affairs.

Not having the data to disprove the the negative hypothesis but on the face of it, I find this totally incredulous.

From Washington through Roosevelt through Eisenhower through the current occupant, we always try to influence opinions and sometimes influence lives/elections.

And I think these are normal state actions. I just don't think that Mr. Nance should be so white-washing of US policy.

Especially in our hemisphere, the U.S. has always had a hand in trying to shape outcomes beneficial to our corporate economic interests. What we love to call 'national security'. It would be hard to agree we've shut that activity down.

It's a mercifully easy read of some complicated material, he lays it all out masterfully. He put together some pieces I had been trouble putting together. Best horror-spy book I've ever read, except for the fact that it's real and I have to live in this country. :/
