https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2018/07/17/gropey-grabby-disgusting-anthony-bourdain-unloaded-on-bill-clinton-and-trump-in-final-interview/?utm_term=.2a3c1d513c11I think Trumps going down for the money. Collusion is tricky to prove, its the money, he said. And once they get too close, in my view he will declare victory, congratulate himself on the fantastic job hes done and resign, saying the job is too small for him. Just what he did in Atlantic City! I got mine, big success for me, and leave behind a shambles.

(15,637 posts)worse, he will start WWIII in the hopes of hanging onto power -- and then he will end up shot, hanged or imprisoned for life. Let's hope it's the first.

(2,267 posts)Not so sure about that. If he resigns, he leaves himself wide-open to prosecution, as his presidential privileges and immunities will then disappear.

(2,845 posts)But I doubt he will resign even if the Feds are closing in on him. For one thing he'll never be as powerful and important as he is now doing anything else. I don't think his ego will allow him to let go of that. A second reason would be that he doesn't have the same ability to obstruct justice when he is gone. He is more likely to abuse his power in more extreme ways to try to make the investigations go away.

(2,590 posts)I thought he might have resigned and walked away earlier in his residency, but the more I've observed him I don't believe he will ever go voluntarily. He might be pushed out by the likes of a congressional delegation who just deliver the news that they will not protect him or give him cover going forward unless he leaves. With their assurances that they wouldn't allow him to be pursued any further legally, or that if he is, Pence could pardon him before the fact, he might go, but my sense is that he'd dig in even harder. The one thing that's very clear is how stubborn he is. Resignation is something he views as weakness and failure, and walking away would be an act of weakness and cowardice. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't get that sense.

(2,845 posts)He might even need to be literally dragged out kicking and screaming. The creepiest thing I have ever seen in politics was when that jackass was talking about how happy he was that China now has a president for life, and then he finished by saying "we might have to try that". I wouldn't put it past him. We'll get a tweet like...
@therealDonaldTrump: Crooked Democrats think they can remove me from office with a phony impeachement. #NOCOLLUSION! #WITCHHUNT! I'm not going anywhere folks. #President4life
or
@therealDonaldTrump: Phony Democrats want an election so the Russians can steal it for them. It's not going to happen folks. I know that real Americans still want me for president. #President4life
And then shit will get real. Hopefully if that happens he gets hauled away in handcuffs, but we better have congressional majorities because I'm convinced that at least half of the repubes would be ready with half baked legal arguments for reverting to monarchism.

RIP Tony Bourdain, you will be missed!

(9,958 posts)If Democrats retake control of the House this November, and I fervently hope the Senate as well, they will have the option of upholding the emoluments clause. As I read it, Congress can allow the president to ignore the emoluments clause, as they are doing now, but if it were enforced, I think Trump might resign rather than give up control of his empire. It depends on how much of that empire is supported by Russian money and whether that flow of money would stop if he resigned and Putin no longer has his stooge in the White House. The big question for me is whether Pence would also sell his soul to Putin for the power of the presidency, in which case Putin might not care if Trump goes because he can just continue with Pence.
