(102,119 posts)could think of to try to "expose" and thus remove those of us who were not absolutely rabidly pro-gun. (I didn't know it at the time, but the guy went BACK home after an argument with an elderly neighbor to get his AR15 to kill him and they were going to go for "self defense"!!!! BROTHER)
When the issue of what constituted "self-defense"came up, I had literally come across as though I knew the case (I didn't) saying that it would be ridiculous to maintain self defense if there was evidence someone went to get a gun and came back to use it--! Sometimes, I DO manage to say the right thing, even by accident.
So, after all that I get kicked off at the very end of the last day of jury selection, but then the Defense Lawyer sees the writing on the wall and goes for a "Hail Mary" mental deficiency defense, requiring a mental health evaluation. So, after all that, a MISTRIAL.
This was two years ago, and afaik, the case has still not been adjudicated.
So, good on the Rocket Docket.
On edit, it seems the trial is now set for this October (the murder occurred in 2015)... Sheesh...

(9,874 posts)The lawyers can submit questions to the judge and request that he ask them, but they do no ask questions directly to the jurors. Thus, no grandstanding and no fooling around and it goes pretty quickly. NJ, where I practiced law, does the same thing.

(15,088 posts)I had jury duty recently and it took an entire day to select the jury for what was really a very minor trial.

(15,062 posts)That reminds me of the question posed to RBG regarding the make up of the SCOTUS.
"How many women should be on the Supreme Court?"
"Nine."
"Nine?"
"Well, there have been nine men on the Supreme Court since the beginning. Nobody ever had a problem with that."
I'm totally paraphrasing, but RBG ROCKS!
And I would totally have loved 12 women on the Manaford jury.

(56,828 posts)I think it was regarding when would she consider the supreme court as being balanced. I think the questioner had expected her to say 4 or 5 women would be good.
