Manafort had a $15,000 jacket made from an ostrich.

Prosecutors: Paul Manafort had a $15,000 jacket 'made from an ostrich'

https://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/ostrich-jacket-paul-manafort-trial-15-thousand-13120663.php

With the trial of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort for bank fraud and tax evasion now underway in Alexandria, Va., it's time for us to hear about the weird stuff that Manafort allegedly spent his millions on. In that respect, the first day of the trial did not disappoint.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Uzo Asoyne told jurors that along with acquiring properties, cars and high-end watches, Manafort also dropped $15,000 on a jacket "made from an ostrich."

MORE: Prosecutors say Manafort believed he was above the law

The specifics of the jacket weren't immediately clear (just ostrich leather, or were feathers also involved?) but will likely emerge in the days to come.

According to the indictment, the jacket is only the tip of the iceberg as far as Manafort's spending is concerned. He also wired $849,215 to a single men's clothing store in New York, part of a total clothing bill of more than $1.3 million. Compared to that lump of cash, what's $15,000 for a jacket made from the skin of the largest living species of bird whose muscular kick is strong enough to fell a lion?

I think maybe the skin. From what I understand, it is handled like leather. Blue_true Jul 2018 #5

Interesting. This website speculated that the jacket may be this one made by Gucci emulatorloo Jul 2018 #12

To each their own. I have leather dress shoes and belts, but prefer cloth for everything else.

without even realizing it. It's that creepy leather with the bumps from where the plumes were plucked out.

but when you say "ostrich" people think of plumes and feathers, and I'm sure that's why the ostrich jacket is getting so much attention on Twitter. We are all imagining Manafort in some feathery, campy thing, not a nice leather jacket.

The person who brought it up was the Asst. US Attorney, so i think they are trying to do exactly the opposite of what you suggest.

They're trying to paint him as a spendthrift jerk and unsympathetic.

And, given your response, and my feelings on it, it did work.

I think it makes him look like quite the ass.

Manafort seems to have been absolutely addicted to luxury items and a high-end lifestyle. Rugs, art, clothes, houses.....

At least it wasn't a jacket made out of human babies!

I'm putting $50 on them turning up an article of clothing made out of human skin.
