(2,015 posts)I think sometimes that the apathetic response to the Russian interference is because they don't remember drills where you hid under your desk waiting for a potential Russian attack when they were kids. The men in this picture blow that theory, they look older than me.

I thought Russia lost its power and its enmity toward the USA when the USSR broke apart, so I joined in the laughter. I have lived to regret it -- the ignorance was mine, not Mitt's.

Is it a bit hyperbolic to connect the two? Putin's Russia then and Putin's Russia now? Maybe. But why not use whatever we can to embarrass these morans. Putin is just as evil. Just as hell bent on destroying Western democracy as he was working for the commies.
Do you not think the Trumpublicans would ever shy away from pouncing on that if things were reversed?

Reminds me of my idiot brother in law who would rage about unions not realizing all the benefits he had at work were a direct result of Democratic legislation and unions.

(47,209 posts)warming and selling more oil- thats great business for them. But yeah, theyve also got a deeply hetero-normative culture as well. It felt like the 50s in a lot of ways when I was there.
I do think that has a lot to do with being socially cut off for so many years from the rest of the world, theyre backward socially ... but its not so much about denying science for the people as it is in what they get exposed to.

Sure it has the Bolshoi and pristine Red Square with its luxury shopping at the Tsum. And yes, unlike New York and Sao Paulo and Mumbai, no one is asking you for food and spare change on every street corner. But when it comes to overall quality of life, Russia ranks lower than all of the big emerging markets. Even Mexico with its corruption and drug lords does better.
According to the big data cost of living number crunchers at Numbeo, Russia's biggest problems are weather; Moscow traffic that makes the 405 in Los Angeles and the Marginal in Sao Paulo seem tame; outrageous real estate prices in city centers, and pollution. Russia may be known for great culture, world-class great museums and home to one of the world's most charming cities in St. Petersburg, but its overall quality of life score is 86.27, putting it on par with its cultural rivals in Ukraine.

(11,443 posts)It's a proven fact that the economy is much better for the middle class and poor when Democrats are running the show. Just look at all the economic disasters the past 90 years, and every one of them happened under repuke leadership, including The Great Depression. Of course, these idiots are probably some of the 50+ percent of Trump voters that actually believe Obama caused the 2007-2008 economic crash and the terrible government response to Katrina in 2005.
