Ohio soybean farmer who voted for Trump because he's a "can-do guy" is "getting his butt kicked"

"The effect of the trade war has been very devastating on soybean farmers here,” Ohio soybean farmer Chris Gibbs told CNBC Friday. “We've taken a 20 percent drop in price,"

“What we’re seeing with market action here today only exacerbates the fact that we have lost our number one customer because of the trade wars,” Gibbs said.

Although Gibbs voted for Trump because he’s a “can-do guy” and acted like he could “get things done, and that’s true,” what the Ohio farmer did not realize was that he and others like him would be thrown into a battle they never asked for.

“What we didn’t realize was that we were going to be put on the frontlines of this trade war and demonize our number one customer,” Gibbs said. “I’ve got a cracked pelvis just from getting my butt kicked based on these prices.”

The comments that this guy and other Trump supporters make causes me to ask what news programs were they watching during the election campaign. Mr. Gibbs stated he did not realize he would be thrown into a trade war for which he did not ask. A major part of Trump's campaign was that he was going to levy tariffs on China and other countries that maintained trade surpluses with the United States. Mr. Gibbs then stated he did not realize that Trump would demonize the number one customer of the soybean farmers. Another major part of Trump's campaign was demonizing China. How many speeches did Trump give where he did not demonize China? Most of Trump's speeches either demonized China, demonized Hillary Clinton, or demonized Barack Obama.

Are some Trump supporters just trying to gaslight the people who did not vote for Trump in order to get sympathy for themselves? Did people like Mr. Gibbs vote for Trump thinking Trump would not go through on these policies? Did they think China would just give up once Trump was elected and a trade war would not be necessary? I do not see how these people did not see this coming. This is exactly what Trump campaigned on for more than a year.

Thank you for your sacrifice. Just keep telling yourself it's for the good of the country. You'll be fine.

Seriously, I don't give a rat's ass about people like Gibbs. For them, the concept of pain and sacrifice was fine as long as it was going to happen to someone else. For all I care, he can stick his MAGA hat up his ass while the sheriff is booting him off of his farm.

Trump campaigned on TARIFFS! If he'd watched the Republican debates, which he probably did not, he would have known the damage that the tariffs could wreak on American businesses. Jeb Bush, Romney, & others made that clear in the debates.

So is he saying that he is okay with wrecking American businesses, as long as it's not HIS?

Now, he gets attention simply because he is willing to risk the wrath of trumpers after losing TONS of money.

I am happy to accept the apologies and reversals of those who made a mistake, but this man is ONLY regretful about being caught in trumps crosshairs while trying to line his own pockets.

I can imagine, with great clarity, what trump would say if HE were a soybean farmer in this man's shoes. Being the narcissist who is focused exclusively on his own self-interest at the expense of all else (including patriotism), trump might have used these exact words once his pocketbook was hit.

Finally, think of this: this white male wealthy farmer saw an enormous windfall when the rebulicunistas voted to lower his taxes at the expense of so much else and he said nothing. Now, he has seen a reversal of fortune where the tax cut he expected has been yanked away from him just so trump can make money for himself and his family!

Sorry, white male wealthy soybean farmer, your whining is falling on deaf ears.

Trump targets China trade, says plans serious measures

Reuters Staff

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump threatened on Wednesday to slap tariffs on Chinese products to show Beijing that the United States is “not playing games anymore” when it comes to leveling the field on trade.

Addressing a rally in Tampa, Florida, Trump said that if he was elected in November, he would instruct the U.S. trade representative to bring cases against China both in the United States and at the World Trade Organization.

Tariffs would be necessary in some cases “because they have to understand that we’re not playing games anymore,” he added. Trump had previously pledged a 45 percent tariff on Chinese goods.

Trump said on Wednesday that the trade deficit with China was more than $500 billion, although the figure given by the U.S. government put it at $367 billion in 2015. The United States has brought cases against China at the WTO, and U.S. officials have frequently slapped antidumping and countervailing duties on Chinese products under U.S. law based on complaints brought by U.S. producers.
