(33,543 posts)is NOT one of the good ones.
He is a pretty nasty, xenophobic, racist, misogynistic asshole. He may have looked the part, but underneath the veneer, he is a slightly smarter version of his boss. I wonder what decisions he is making behind the scenes. Maybe he thinks he is the real president.

His great-grandfather John Edward Kelly was born in Maine, the son of parents who immigrated from Canada. While the name Kelly implies Irish immigration, that probably resulted from the famine of the late 1840s. John Edward Kellys parents Chief of Staff Kellys great-great-grandparents were already in Canada when the famine began.
His great-grandmother Mary Connelly came to the United States after the famine from near Clifden, Ireland, in County Galway. (Most of Kellys immigrant ancestors came in the late 1800s.) Its not clear specifically where she came from, but the town is a small one on the coast surrounded by farmland.
His great-grandfather Joseph (Giuseppe) Pedalino came from near the Italian town of Avellino. Researcher Jennifer Mendelsohn, with whom Pattangall shared her research, dug further into Kellys family history. (Weve featured her research in the past.) She found Pedalinos naturalization papers that indicate that he came from Quadrelle province, a small region in the Italian foothills.

On his mothers side, Kellys great-grandfathers worked as a wagon driver and fruit peddler, according to Mendelsohns research. These were not skilled positions, obviously. Its not clear that any of Kellys immigrant ancestors had significant educational backgrounds.
Then theres the issue of language. This can be trickier to determine, but census forms used to include questions about languages spoken. From one such record, Mendelsohn learned that John DeMarco, the fruit peddler, still didnt speak English after more than a decade in the country. His wife Crescenza Kellys great-grandmother lived in the United States for more than 30 years without learning the language.

(47,351 posts)but with these people, she doesn't have to. She probably has far more to work with than we can imagine. These are not cautious people, they are reckless, impulsive, and self-serving. Omarosa is calculating and clever. Obviously the idiots underestimated her.

(15,216 posts)Yes everything is relative. The repuglicon curve of repugnance is down at the bottom of the septic tank.
After having Barack Hussein Obama as our most recent decent president, I can't think of a repuglicon since perhaps Eisenhower that has any equivalence to BO.

A lot of them have moved into the mainland (FL and NY from what I've heard) after Maria, and hopefully have registered to vote in their new communities, thus my comment.

(875 posts)Grand Total: $1.09 Trillion
That final annual tally of nearly $1.1 trillion to pay for past wars, fund current wars, and prepare for possible future conflicts is roughly double the already staggering $575 billion the Trump administration has proposed as the Pentagons regular budget for 2018. Most taxpayers have no idea that more than a trillion dollars a year is going to whats still called defense, but these days might equally be called national insecurity.
So the next time you hear the president, the secretary of defense, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, or a hawkish lawmaker claim that the U.S. military is practically collapsing from a lack of funding, dont believe it for a second. Donald Trump may finally have put plutocracy in the Oval Office, but a militarized version of it has long been ensconced in the Pentagon and the rest of the national security state. In government terms, make no mistake about it, the Pentagon & Co. are the 1%.

While I welcome the insights into the Trump administration's disgusting behavior, I loathe the self-serving self-righteousness of the source.
