Maybe her dress was little too short.
Maybe "Uncle Bill" could have controlled his drooling a little.
And maybe someone should have that scowl chiseled off his face...
But damn, she OWNED that song. As good a tribute as your gonna get for Aretha.
And the band was as badass as it gets, too.

(41,959 posts)Maybe Bill ogled a little, and Id bet money many others did too. There is nothing wrong with a smile and a sigh for days gone by. Prior to the service they were chatting and she asked for photos with him and Hillary. Her fiancée was there too.
This was a homegoing. A celebration. She sang the hell out of that song. People got to hate, its their loss.

(10,173 posts)As much as I think the Bill reaction is overblown, there is a skeevy vibe to older men leering at young women, while the reverse barely registers outrage. ( Older women leer at younger men too ) Finding a young person attractive isn't a problem until that attraction is acted out in predatory ways with disregard for consent or just exploitative. The skeevy vibe for me came after her performance when the Pastor called her to him..
She looked uncomfortable when he pulled her close to him. What struck me was how blind he was to the signals she was sending that she was uncomfortable - even when she tried to let him go. He has since apologized:

(24,546 posts)was a sense of entitlement; some men even consider it a compliment that women should (in their opinion) appreciate. What a terrible experience for her to be groped on live TV where she probably felt trapped and intimidated into silence.
I'm not sure that "Maybe I crossed the border, maybe I was too friendly or familiar..." indicates that he has learned anything from the experience.

(10,173 posts)I cringed when he called her out because I knew what was gonna happen. To describe it as gross wouldn't begin to cover it..
... Another worst moment was Pastor Jasper ( total idiot) who almost covered the full range of toxic ISMS a dumbass possibly could... I couldn't believe the fuck I was hearing.
