A powerful moment: Nancy Pelosi escorts Congressman Sam Johnson of TX to casket of John McCain.

A powerful moment that will likely go unnoticed by most. Nancy Pelosi escorts Congressman Sam Johnson of Texas to casket of #JohnMcCain. Johnson is one of the most conservative members of Congress and also spent 7 years as a POW in the Hanoi Hilton.

Dirty Donny really seems to hate anyone who served honorably, including of course the Gold Star families who sacrificed sons and daughters. The republican misleader's vile, craven comments must have stung Congressman Johnson as well as Senator McCain and all Americans who have suffered as POWs while in service to America. He owes a big sincere apology to Senator McCain, Congressmen Johnson, their families, and all who have served America honorably. But the republican misleader lacks the character to act with honor.

Many of today's Republicans would have waved Nancy off rather than be seen accepting her support in their common grief

No idea who arranged for her to sit alongside Johnson (McCain?, Nancy and Sam Johnson?). Both would be right up front in special seats.

Republican lawmaker Sam Johnson rose from his wheelchair to pay tribute to the late Senator John McCain - the man with whom he had shared a cell in Vietnam for 18 months when they were prisoners of war.

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi helped Johnson to McCain's coffin during a ceremony honoring the late senator in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol on Friday.

Johnson rose from his wheelchair, and, with a cane in one hand and Pelosi holding on to his other arm, walked to McCain's coffin to touch it goodbye.

Here and in other places on the web people spewing nonstop bile at their enemies. Pelosi, McCain, Clinton, Obama, Bush...all better than any of us because they could be political enemies but outside of politics be decent to each other and even friends.

Most have never worked in a situation where their differences were constantly exploited for political gain. Think about it, most people work towards a common goal on their jobs everyday. While we may know this academically to be true about congress, the vast differences in ideas are often amplified. It becomes a matter of who is "good" and who is "bad".
Also, for many people, politics are different because where one stands is usually a reflection of his/her values. There are also cultural differences at play here. Some people do not have to live with bigots (or even people with vastly different political views) in their families. Some are better at separating (compartmentalizing) the good from the bad in people because they may have more experience.
Give your fellow DUers a break, please. If you are personally feeling a loss, please accept my condolences. Ignore their outbursts, if you can.

I thought perhaps it was her husband, but I didn't think he was that old.

POW for seven years? What bad luck to be captured near the beginning of that debacle.
