Fox News host Laura Ingraham made a stunning suggestion on her Friday night show, arguing that the American government should take over private social media networks so that they can be regulated.

“There’s a thought that given the enormity of these corporations, and this is a public square today,” Ingraham said. “This is the equivalent of what we used to see in the old town square was people with a bull horn. And so could there be a movement to treat them more like public utilities, so they have some quasi-government oversight of these entities?”

Ingraham laid the blame on the tech industry, which she said is controlled by “intolerant” liberals on the West Coast.

“The west coast, otherwise known as the left coast: overwhelmingly left wing, overwhelmingly probably voted for Hillary,” she said. “They say, this is just an algorithm.”

Ingraham then advocated for Microsoft’s fledgling and much-mocked search engine, Bing......................

When the state owns the means of production, it's one of the stages of Marxist Communism. Socialism takes on many forms. We can see variations in everyday life. Many nations use limited forms of socialism in which the means of production are regulated, not owned.

about Universal Health Care all wrong. If we wanted to get the government involved in health care, all we had to do was get them to criticize Trump.

I thought conservatives were supposed to be all about private ownership, free enterprise, government hands off, drown the government in the bathtub. But this fascist wants government oversight of certain businesses, particularly those giving platforms to non-conservatives to speak. So, I guess fuck the first amendment AND small government.

It seems Republicans have now become Communists. It is interesting that now that a Republican is President they think it would be okay for the government to own private industry. I can only imagine what they would say if a supporter of President Obama had suggested that President Obama take over FOX News and treat it like a public utility. It is also interesting because people like Laura Ingraham were the people who opposed public utilities. They were the people who claimed the market should be left alone to do as it pleased.

So, now we know that Republican only supported the free market because they thought it supported them and their goals. Now that the free market may not always support them they want government to force the free market to support them. I think this could lead someone to ask if Republicans are truly Capitalists. Do they really support a free market? They have shown tendencies of not liking a truly free market. This is not the first time they have called for some regulation that was meant to give them an edge. They are only Capitalist when Capitalism allows them to win. They are not against the government choosing winner; they are against the government not choosing them as winners. At the end of the day, comments like Ingraham's can lead someone to say that Republicans are not real Capitalists.
