Once thing you can say about him is he lacks artifice.

(102,234 posts)Or the fact I'd say something appreciative of GWBush*? I haven't forgiven him for anything, but he's more human than what we have now--by miles and smart enough to appreciate the glorious dignity of Michelle Obama.

(4,835 posts)killed, to put us in an unnecessary war, to unleased a refugee crisis and further destabilize the middle east, and to devastate our economy. No artifice is left or needed; he can let it all hang out.
We have a winner

(47,418 posts)doesn't change history. Few people can say they are the cause of the deaths of hundreds of thousand people, sanctioned torture, invaded a sovereign nation, turned the Mid East into a tinder box, tanked the economy............well, you all know what happened. He doesn't get a pass. Our outrage was genuine and based on real events. Also George Bush was a stepping stone on the path that led us to this point.
All is not forgiven and will not be forgotten. What we have now is what happens when people in government are not held accountable for their actions.

(47,418 posts)I make it a point to repeat this whenever people start to soften on Bush. We didn't all live and breath politics 24/7 for eight years because Bush was an inarticulate goof ball. So many of us here became politically baptized because of that administration.
Democratic Underground, along with a lot of other progressive sites were born because of the outrageous incompetence, deceit, corruption, and greed we witnessed on a daily basis.
So because Trump right now is our worst nightmare, Bush gets a temporary break, but he doesn't get absolution. His misdeeds and crimes will affect us for decades.

(47,418 posts)are first and foremost on mind, so I don't focus too much on Bush unless his name comes up. In reminding others, I am also reminding myself, he was every bit as bad as I thought he was.

(2,573 posts)I'll never forget what a total mess he made of everything and the PTSD the entire country went through because he ignored warnings and let Sept 11 happen.
Americans were running through the streets for their lives. That's how crappy republicans are at security.
Also, he stole elections. He condoned torture. He let Katrina victims die. He tanked the economy.
I can't stand him.
