But, they both agreed that they could not pull out before 1972 so as not to hurt Nixon’s re-election chances.

I had hoped someone of McCain's stature could lead a deeper discussion of what Vietnam should mean to this country; don't let your political leaders lead you down some god forsaken rabbit hole without answering real questions or having their own skin in the game. One of the worst things the Nixon and then Reagan/Bush administrations did was demonize those who questioned the whole purpose of Vietnam. Wave the flag and say the opposition is disrespecting everyone who has made sacrifices for their country. I guess I shouldn't shoulder McCain with that responsibility because in the end putting that "conflict" in perspective for this country was just to great for one person to bear.

as a gesture of forgiveness by McCain. Consider what it would mean to include someone responsible for great harm to you in such an intimate and important expression of your life. McCain left this lesson.
