They played Jupiter from Holst's 'The Planets' at McCain's funeral

Jupiter represents Zeus, the ruler of Mount Olympus.

Mars is the warrior.

Just one more insult directed at the ignoranus in the White House.

1. Also, the melody is the hymn "I Vow To Thee My Country."

So it might have that meaning as well.

2. Full title: Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity

Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity

As the round-faced cheery uncle of all the planets, and king of the gods, Jupiter is impressive and majestic. The swelling brass and slow waltzing strings are met with moments of poignant beauty in the glorious tune now known as ‘I Vow to Thee My Country’.

3. The ascending triplet on trumpet,

repeated over and over throughout the piece must have inspired whoever wrote the original Star Trek theme.

4. I love The Planets

and Jupiter most of all. It's powerful, but transcending the bellicosity of Mars.

5. Even though Holst was English, the tune sounds american. Downton Abbey era.

The asymmetrical meters implied by the unsually weighted beats in 3 give it a forward-sounding profundity. The melody is easy and simple, of narrow range, with obvious (satisfying) phrasing. There are repeated pitches that punctuate the overall shape, so you don't get lost in the melody. It sounds modern without becoming harsh or jagged. Always within a clear tonal center, the melody soars on a long arc of connected phrases. Very descriptive for such a long, dedicated career.

I think it was chosen for the sound: Not the original subject.

6. The lyrics to the hymn "I Vow To Thee My Country," also by Holst:

I think this is the reason the music was selected.

I vow to thee my country, all earthly things above,
Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love.
The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best.
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
And there'es another country I've heard of long ago,
Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know.
We may not count her armies, we may not see her king,
Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering.
And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
And her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace.

7. One of my favorites

I want it played at my own sendoff and I have emphatically told my family that no member of the tRump family should be invited to that occasion or I will return to haunt them.
