We have witnessed a remarkable moment. The cathedral was packed, the front rows occupied by the nation’s politically powerful, past and present. Throughout the service celebrating the life of John McCain, compelling pleas rang forth exhorting all of us, especially those in positions of power, to claim and bolster those ideals that are uniquely American. We were reminded that our strength resides in our commitment to doing the right thing, not the politically expedient thing.

Mitch McConnell sat front and center, and when the Senate next reconvenes, he will undoubtedly demonstrate that he heard not one word.
