CNN: " (SHITLER's) name was not mentioned, but in nearly every speech there was an underlying reference to him."
* Meghan McCAIN: "The America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because America was always great." "American greatness. The real thing, not cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice he gave so willingly, nor the opportunistic appropriation of those who lived lives of comfort and privilege while he suffered and served." A few have resented that fire for that light it cast upon them, for the truth it revealed about their character, but my father never cared what they thought. And even that small number still have the opportunity, as long as they draw breath, to live up to the example of John McCain.
* Shrub (Geo. W.) BUSH: "Perhaps above all John detested the abuse of power, could not abide bigots and swaggering despots." He respected the dignity inherent in every life, a dignity that does not stop at borders and cannot be erased by dictators, he said. He was honorable, always recognizing that his opponents were still patriots and human beings. -GWB,
* "You lugubrious leech, you dopey doppelgänger of deceit and deviance, you lethal liar, you dimwitted dictator, you foolish fascist," Georgetown University sociology professor Michael Eric Dyson said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "She (Aretha) ain't work for you."
* You know, the other Sunday on my show, I misspelled 'Respect,' and a lot of y'all corrected me," Sharpton said, according to the Washington Examiner. Now, I want yall to help me correct President Trump to teach him what it means.
* "If you leave here today and don't register to vote, you're dishonoring Aretha." - Jesse JACKSON.
* Later, singer Stevie Wonder implored those in attendance to help make love great again.
* OBAMA's zingers were more subtle, listing American values (that SHITLER destroys) : "some principles are eternal and worth risking everything for, bigger than party, or ambition, or money, or fame, or power." He understood that if we get in the habit of bending the truth to suit political expediency or party orthodoxy, our democracy will not work. So much of our politics, our public life, our public discourse, can seem small and mean and petty, trafficking in bombast and insult, in phony controversies and manufactured outrage, Mr. Obama said. Its a politics that pretends to be brave, but in fact is born of fear. John called us to be bigger than that. He called us to be better than that.

Dubya had better hope McCain enjoyed irony as well.

(180 posts)I hadnt seen any mention of Ws second slam about the border, and hadnt seen a video of his eulogy. I wish his fellow Republicans would rise up, and condemn the horrific actions of family separations. As usual, it takes a retired republican official to finally show a little courage.
Im not sure the Rs truly understand the depths they have fallen without a John McCain to stand firm in defense of principles. The descent is only going to accelerate until we remove them from power this November.

(18,101 posts)that Americans use funerals to trash talk political opponents, and that so many find this not only acceptable, but wonderful.
It's trumpish. When Sarah Palin is showing more class than many on the left, there's a problem.

(37,648 posts)Trump won't understand any of it except for Meghan's reference and criticism of Make America Great Again. Someone will have to tell him what those long sentences and big words mean.

That was a direct hit at Cheeto as he was the one who stayed at home in comfort and privilege because of his fake bone spurs while McCain served.
