Uh Oh!! Cracks in the European Alliance?

Trump could push Germany toward Russia and China, veteran diplomat says

BERLIN (Reuters) - The longer Donald Trump stays in office, the higher the risk that anti-American forces will gain the upper hand in Germany and push it into the arms of Russia and China, veteran German diplomat Wolfgang Ischinger said in an interview. <snip>

<snip> Against this backdrop, some German politicians are urging the government to seek closer ties with Moscow and Beijing - two authoritarian powers whose values diverge from the liberal democracy that Germany has built in the seven decades since it rose from the ashes of World War Two with American help. Then just *maybe* Republicans in the Senate can convince Trump to resign. He can claim the country doesn't deserve him (something we can all agree on) or that he wants to spend more time with his family or that he wants to improve his golf game. It doesn't matter; just get the fuck out.

Those living in the smaller countries are terrified about what could happen. Most of their parents either lived through the war or knew the depredations of it.
