The FBI debunked Trump after he decided to amplify a baseless right-wing conspiracy alleging that Hillary Clinton's emails were hacked by China.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was forced to publicly debunk Trump, who made a wildly false allegation to try to deflect from the FBI’s ongoing investigation into his campaign’s involvement with Russian operatives.
Riffing off a report from the right-wing (and often inaccurate) Daily Caller, Trump wrote, “Report just out: ‘China hacked Hillary Clinton’s private Email Server.’ Are they sure it wasn’t Russia (just kidding!)? What are the odds that the FBI and DOJ are right on top of this?”
NBC News asked the FBI to comment on Trump’s conspiracy-mongering, and they said flat-out that his allegations were inaccurate.
“The FBI has not found any evidence the [Clinton] servers were compromised,” an FBI official told NBC.
The FBI official also referred NBC to a report from the Justice Department inspector general on the FBI’s investigation of Clinton’s private email server. The report said the FBI “acknowledged that the FBI investigation and its forensic analysis did not find evidence that Clinton’s email server systems were compromised.”....................................
