Bartlesville, OK A Bartlesville man has been arrested after he accidentally burned down his home by attempting to burn a pair of Nike sneakers in protest of the latest Colin Kaepernick Ad.
According to authorities, Jason Helms, 26, placed a pair of Nike sneakers in his garage and soaked them in Kerosene before lighting them on fire and filming it with his iPhone. The fire ended up spreading to the garage walls and ceiling before spreading to his actual home. Helms called 911 but by the time firefighters arrived they were unable to save his home.
People across the country have been setting their Nike shoes of fire in protest against Nike, who recently made an Ad featuring controversial NFL star Colin Kaepernick and reading: Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything Just do it. Officer Don Greenstein encourages people, Dont burn your Nike gear, just send them over to me.

(11,175 posts)Suppose it had actually happened. This induhvidual decides to get rid of some stuff he doesn't want, and he lights an unguarded fire that spreads, destroys a building (can't there be arson even of your own building?), and imperils neighboring houses and the people in them.
I remember, as a kid, when we'd rake leaves into the gutter and burn them. That's now generally illegal. If an open leaf fire is a crime, it's at least conceivable that an open Nike fire is a crime.
Note to MAGAts: If you want to burn any Nike gear, do it in an enclosed grill. You could even roast some marshmallows. As you watch the white marshmallows turn brown and black, reflect upon the changing American electorate.

Besides the fake URL and the horrid quality as well as extreme brevity of the content, the joke at the end by "Officer Don Greenstein" jumped out at me as fake.

(15,315 posts)The article is brief and low on details, as you say. It merely says a man has been arrested. And people are indeed arrested for recklessly starting fires all the time. Articles are often brief in their content as well. Take AP articles, for example. The fact that this is indeed a brief article low on facts supports my side. What is so unbelievable about a reckless, stupid person starting a fire in this manner?

Despite what social media would have you believe, a Bartlesville man did not accidentally burn his house down trying to protest a recent Nike ad featuring Colin Kaepernick.
A story about the alleged house fire began trending on Facebook and Twitter on Thursday, but Bartlesville Police Capt. Jay Hastings assures the far-fetched tale is a hoax.
"I know nothing of any such crime," Hastings said.
