My wife was reluctant to opine, but she couldn’t stand to look at me anymore, and that’s how I knew it was not working.

Colbert says his wife is like the electoral college on the beard deal.

As for the beard, he discussed it at length - and even held an online poll! He said that the beard may have won "the popular vote," but his wife is the Electoral College!
