Russia warns it is prepared to attack key base where dozens of U.S. troops are stationed.

Russia has reportedly warned the United States that its military and allied Syrian forces were ready to attack a key US-held base near the border of Syria, Jordan, and Iraq, US defense officials said in a CNN report published on Thursday.

The Kremlin, which alleges that the US-led coalition base protects nearby militant troops, reportedly delivered two warnings in the past week, according to US officials. At Tanf, the base where a coalition of dozens of US troops and Syrian rebels launch counter-ISIS operations, is seen as a critical location within the scope of Iranian, Syrian, and Russian influence in the region.

down that extraordinary bloodbath of a battle, I think that Trump would love to do it again, this time the media would have to cover it.

That operation was a textbook defense by US troops, and probably never would have gotten to his desk until afterwards (assuming he would read it anyway). The media probably didn't make a big deal because it was mercenaries, and not an actual act of war on another major nation.

The bigger story is how Russia covered it up domestically. Just like the sudden surge in "Training Accidents" during the Crimean/Eastern Ukraine crisis.

is exactly the level at which the President controls the military, that is why are less worried about this threat than we would have been in the past.

I think President Obama would have allowed just as fierce a defense of troops on the ground. The difference is he sought to avoid putting our troops in such a position in the first place.

Russian "mercenaries" and Pro Assad Syrian forces tried to ambush a checkpoint earlier this year. They had over a 10-1 manpower advantage and got annihilated.

with our moving in of troops and mobile air bases, advanced weapon systems and more robust alliances in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, I imagine that Russia doesn't want to mess with this administration.

I'm an old NATO warrior and don't want us showing weakness to Russia.
