Police: Woman had 5 drinks before 2-year-old son was found 'stiff' in hot car
DALEVILLE, Ind.
A central Indiana woman whose son died after being found in a hot car had at least five drinks before taking a nap several hours earlier, authorities said Thursday.
Britni Nicole Wihebrink, 28, of Daleville told an investigator she woke up with a hangover, began drinking about 11 a.m. Wednesday and had two wine coolers and three or four bourbon drinks and possibly more drinks before taking a nap about 1 or 2 p.m., a probable cause affidavit said.
Her son, 2-year-old Jaxon Stults, was found very hot and stiff on the rear floorboard of her car about 6:30 p.m., and the boy was pronounced dead in an ambulance on the way to a hospital, the affidavit said.
Wihebrink is being held without bond on a preliminary charge of neglect of a dependent.
According to the Herald Bulletin, Wihebrink told investigators she couldn't remember if she saw her son after 1 or 2 p.m. She said she had a "really good buzz and has a bad drinking problem."
Investigators found seven empty Jim Beam 50 ml bottles in her home. Three additional bottles were found in her purse and four were found in her bedroom drawer.
(No shit she has a drinking problem!)

There is no black/white answer to this problem.
but, given the road we seem to be on, if enough right wing judges get elected, that may change.

She should never be allowed to be responsible for a child again.

(60,010 posts)There's a good chance she will have very deep remorse about what she did.
A common scenario in cases like this, if she drank again on top of her guilt, she might commit suicide.
I would make that serious argument to the judge, to have her committed to an impatient detox/treatment program.
She gets the chance to get sober, with supportive people, , under court review for say ...9 months, followed by a year's probation.
Possibly save one life at least.
(FWIW, ,most of my sub. abuse clients were the result of such a court order, and judges are pretty open to treatment staff recommendations.)
So that's the "first do no harm" disease model approach.
because of alcoholism, her chance of making it that far are slim, so she could wind up in prison.
That's the more common result.
I have had 2 treatment defiant alcoholic males end up dead from drinking and driving. both in No. Fla.
boy, they sure showed me, I guess.

No need for abortion to be available - the will of God will remedy all problems and difficulties. Perfection and bliss will wash over humanity if the will of God was obeyed.

I suspect the charges are eventually gonna get considerably worse, as they should.
Poor kid, that's really, really sad.
This reminds me how glad I am that I decided to NOT have kids.

(33,643 posts)... so they could get up and drive to work in the morning?
How about someone who needed another 16-perc jolt ... no later than 4pm ... pretty much no matter what?
What if that person needed another 16-perc dose no later than 12pm ... so they could head to bed without worrying about going into withdrawals BEFORE they woke up the next AM, when they'd need to repeat the process?
And what if that was a bare-minimum ... i.e. the aforementioned was a day where they'd sadly missed out on another 16-perc blast somewhere along the way ... probably due to a lack of funds, or cause 'the man' never showed?
Now ... assuming said person never even had an oxy prescription, and lived this way EVERY DAY ... for over 3 years in the early 2000's ... would your best guess be that such a person MIGHT have seen a 'blind, blackout drunk' ... once or twice in their life?
Hypothetically, I mean?
