1. It drives me nuts when people say "Democrat party"

It doesn't make Democrats look bad, it makes the person saying it look ignorant. I'm always thrilled when someone corrects them and really, it is for their own good.

I say fuck you. Dems must fight back on this simple one. It's important.
It also gives them more air time to repeat the noun and the adjective.
Every time one of them says Democrat Party they must say no it's Democratic Party.

occasionally, but I wish they'd do it more often. The best was when Congressman Emanuel Cleaver corrected a republican (think it was on Joy's show actually) and went on to explain that it was poor English. If these people get corrected often enough, they'll eventually quit doing it.

To "piss off the libs." They know it irritates Democrats. Personally, I would prefer that people start referring to them as "Rethuglicans." Give 'me a taste of their own medicine. Or, at least say, "I don't know what is this 'Democrat' party you speak of, but the Democratic Party..."

Correct them and make it clear that a Democrat is a member of the party, but it is the Democratic Party - repeat that over and over until they are so pissed that they stop it. They do not get to rename the party with their slur.
Be pissed.

it would annoy me that someone, often very well educated, would purposely use really bad English in an attempt to make an opposing party look bad. It would annoy me, no matter what the reason actually. The ghosts of English teachers past lurk over my shoulder on a regular basis.

If they want to insult their opponents, just insult them, something they do on a regular basis anyway, but they don't have to turn a noun into an adjective and pretend it makes Democrats look bad. I am so sick of their stupid Orwellian word manipulation, often turning positive words into negative ones and how they are all working off of the same talking points list. They behave like a bunch of mindless sixth graders.

11. And when that happens around you, you have a right - and an obligation -

to stop things right then and there, and correct it.

This devious little talking point has been allowed to stand, uncorrected and unchallenged, for a little no time. So it’s been allowed to take root and become mainstream. We could have nipped this one in the bud years ago but I guess nobody wanted to ruffle feathers! Be nice! We have to be nice. We have to take the high road and always be nice.

Excuse me - I’m about to be called into a vicious gunfight. Must get ready. Where’s my butter knife?

20. I've seen Chris Matthews

do it a few times, but not often enough. Also he says that Democratic party is what the party prefers, but that isn't really the point. The point is Democrat is a noun, not an adjective and it sounds stupid.

You don't even have to be condescending when you do it. You can just repeat it back to the person with an emphasis on the "ic" in Democratic. I can remember a time a long, long time ago, when Republicans were often the bettered educated and more intellectual ones. That was before they started trying to lure the more ignorant people to the polls. Then they started dumbing down their rhetoric.

I'm glad Joy corrected him. Can you imagine the uproar that would ensue on Fake News Network if someone referred to The Party of Trump as "The Rethuglican Party"?!

...the second one.

I remember several years ago when Chris Matthews pointedly told Darryl Issa, as only Matthews could, that the name of the party is the DemocratIC Party, and actually got Issa to apologize and corrected himself the rest of the interview. It only lasted that one day, but I was cheering when that happened.

22. I'd just as soon shrug in response, if that.

I'm a democrat. I'm a member of the Democratic Party and I have been a member of the Democratic Party for the 32 years that I've been able to vote. I've always voted straight ticket. No exceptions. Okay, I once unknowingly voted for a republican for a "non-partisan" school board position but I didn't know the guy was a republican at the time and it has burned my hide for the 30 years since.

Anyway, I'd just as soon take ownership of both terms. I get that republicans intentionally use it in a derogatory fashion. They're assholes who comfortably sold their souls to Putin "just to watch liberals heads explode." So, f*ck them all to hell. Personally, I say a silent "thank you" when someone exposes himself as such an asshole.

As for how to respond to people who refer to us as the "Democrat Party" instead of "Democratic Party?," I'd simply ask them why they used the term and then let them expose themselves as assholes.

For me, so long as the "Democrat Party" stands for the ideals and values of the Democratic Party, I'll stand solidly, comfortably, as an active member. Yes, I'll correct the "error," but they sure as hell won't see my head explode over it.
