A lot of today's "conservatives" aren't conservative, don't stand for anything really

It's just if you are someone they don't like and you have positions A, B, and C, then they take positions not-A, not-B, and not-C.

Look at how they operate and talk, you know it's true... But this can be messed with, find ways to throw wrenches into this mindset.

From the environment, public education, labor rights, internet rights, women’s rights or our right to have a government reasonably free of wealthy influence......THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN CONSERVING ANYTHING. The biggest mistake the media and dems make in my opinion is to convey a respectful term like “conservative” onto these radical and SELFISH animals.

holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in relation to politics or religion.
synonyms: traditionalist, traditional, conventional, orthodox, old-fashioned.

They are, in fact, radical and extreme.

who lead them to abandon what was once considered normal political conservative ideology. That's because protecting what is old and good doesn't work for the new billionaire class.

I strongly disagree that they don't stand for anything, though. They have been trained to stand for protecting the nation from everything and anything they are told is liberal. A mindlessly simple, if negative, ideology that most are very committed to.

There's nothing conservative about cheating on your spouse but now they excuse their leaders when they do it. There's nothing conservative about breaking up families, conservatives are supposed to be all about family values. Now they exclude those families who aren't the right color. Those families they want to break up.

The greedy are happy to foment and exploit bigotry. And the bigots support Republicans because of their bigotry.

I'll say it for the umpteenth time, without racism and sexism there...is...no...viable...Republican...Party. Magically wake up in a world free of racism (including xenophobia) and sexism, and there would not be a national Republican Party in the United States of America. There would not be a national Republican Party in the United States.

It's not economic anxiety. It's not opposition to universal health care. It's not opposition to environmental protection policies. It's not opposition to affordable post-secondary education. It's not even opposition to sensible gun control policies (background checks, waiting periods, etc.). It's all about racism and sexism and hatred of LGBTQ persons and hatred for liberals (the latter has much to do with liberals being anti-racist, anti-sexist, etc.). That bigotry is then exploited to justify right wing economic policy ("those people" shouldn't get such-and-such), right wing health care policy (again, "those people" just want a handout), etc.

The sooner every well-meaning person of conscience recognizes this and unites against the Republican Party the better.

Today's "conservatives" are driven by hatred. Simple as that.

Easy example: My own brother. He is a conservative. All he does is hate. He hates nonwhite people. He hates women. Hates gays. Hates Democrats. Hates ANYONE who lives in the Northeast. Hates anyone from California. Hates anyone who served in any branch but the Marines. Hates cats. Hate, hate, hate. His favorite singer is Lee Ann Womack, and he likes her because she sings this song:

(If you don't want to click it, and I don't recommend you do, it's a song about a woman trying to figure out a justification for hating her ex-boyfriend's new fiancee.)
