For those in the hurricane Florence zones here is a nice wind/precip map

Just put in your zip code, date, time, what you want to measure.

I live in 27858 area and found my top wind gust speed to be 81 mph. Good luck to all.

12. That is reflecting the current winds.

A few days from now, that big High up in Canada is going to move out and the ridge & jetstream may shift position and affect Florence's path.

13. Just saying that it's too far out

to tell what wind speeds will be in your zip code.

14. Well yeah, it's just a site/app to show "current" conditions

and people can just monitor it (or look outside) to check for any wind direction/speed shifts!

There are a couple sites like that out there including this one -

https://earth.nullschool.net/ (this is the first one I had ever run into a couple years ago)

or this -

http://hint.fm/wind/

There's also a cool lightning map here -

https://www.lightningmaps.org/

Florence is kicking up some convection! - https://www.lightningmaps.org/?lang=en#m=oss;t=3;s=0;o=0;b=;ts=0;y=30.0691;x=-66.5111;z=5;d=2;dl=2;dc=0;

16. It lets you plug in a date and get a futurecast.

Hence all of the references to what people are thinking will be their conditions when Florence comes on shore.

17. It's probably okay as a ballpark for this system

The storm track seems to really have some good model consensus at the moment. It's probably no different than what a local "5-day" TV weather forecast would put out there (which would also have a large margin of error ).

Anyone in the direct path should pay attention to local authorities and news in any case.

6. Thank you so much for this resource!

in 24121, our wind gusts are predicted to be from 33 - 53 on Friday to Saturday. We are well inland.

My husband may see if his dad and stepmom in New Bern, NC want to be picked up.

9. Thanks! I could just watch this instead of working...

I'm pretty far to the north, but we'll have 20-30 mph winds and gusts.
