I remember how he brought his dead baby home from the hospital so the other siblings could meet it.

Eugene Robinson doesn't think voters will be "down" with how Rick Santorum and his wife mourned their stillborn child.

"He's not a little weird, he's really weird," Robinson said of Santorum. "And some of his positions that he has taken are just so weird that I think that some Republicans are off-put. Not everybody is not going to be down, for example, with the story of how he and his wife handled the stillborn child. It was a body that they took home to kind of sleep with it, introduce it to the rest of the family. It's a very weird story."

I know several people who had stillborn full term babies. The grief is unimaginable.

That is the only time they would ever have been able to be with their child. In Great Britain, the hospitals can provide special cooled blankets that keep the child’.s body at a low temperature so that the parents and family can keep the child at home for a few days before cremation or burial.

It’s only in fairly recent, modern times that American people have been divorced and separated from death and dying and being with their deceased loved ones.

On edit: For those who don't know, "frothy mixture" refers to a part of a definition that was the first item to appear when you googled santorum. It's now in about the 4th or 5th position because of complaints from fundies, wingnuts and lawyers.

Here's the definition that is still on Google:

Santorum: (neologism, sex, slang) A frothy mixture of lubricant and fecal matter as an occasional byproduct of anal sex. [from 21st c.]
