by Ken Meyer | Sep 12th, 2018, 7:57 am
CNN Chief Legal Analyst Jeffrey Toobin slammed Donald Trump for calling the governments handling Puerto Rico an unsung success, saying the president doesnt really value the lives of the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives to Hurricane Maria last year.
As Toobin spoke to his colleagues on New Day about the presidents recent comments, he suggested Trump would never have called his storm crisis response an unsung success if that many white people died in Texas or Florida as a result of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
Alisyn Camerota didnt want to go that far, but she did make a note that we certainly know that they didnt have the apparatus in place when they knew that hurricane was coming and you have to ask why.
John Berman said [Trump] wouldnt acknowledge a failure no matter what. I dont think its in his DNA to acknowledge weakness or failure.
In his very latest remarks, Trump attacked San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz as totally incompetent for criticizing the federal governments recovery effort for Puerto Rico.

(58,785 posts)or admit it. Trump doesn't like or need Puerto Ricans and has a grudge against them for going big for Hillary Clinton.
Even before Trump, though, most on the right refused to know that Puerto Ricans are Americans, citizens just like them, much less to know that almost 76% of Puerto Ricans are white, or were as of the 2010 census. They're far away, speak a foreign language, and a quarter are POC. So not members of Trump's white nationalist tribe.
Puerto Rico illustrates that when the hostility and aggression of strong social conservatives is harnessed and focused by bad leaders it won't halt for anyone, not white people, not even white Christians. They will leave them to die or put them in cages if that's the leader's decision. Or both.
Something for all of us to note because they are perilously close to gaining power over all 3 branches of government and a majority of states. And everyone outside their tribe will be a potential Puerto Rican. Real POC in special trouble, of course, because smaller groups always draw attacks by vicious people who get control.

(64,951 posts). . .referred to PR as a country. Their country is the United States Ricky, you moron.
But, that just reinforces your point. That fool think PR is somebody else's country.

(58,785 posts)First step to active human rights abuse: Deny citizenship in order to deny citizenship rights.
Second step: Get victims out of the country to make it easier to deny all the rest of the rights and get away with whatever, even if it's all unquestionably illegal. Puerto Ricans are already offshore.
Third step: Deny Puerto Rico's part of the U.S., insist they really not Americans even if it is, and insist it doesn't matter anyway because ___________________ (insert lie and/or slur of choice to settle it once and for all).
This is the second time I've heard Santorum's name lately. Just googled, and he's been talking up Trump. Now there's a connection that's not going to happen, but just maybe Santorum is greasing right-wing voters with thoughts of running again in mind?
Hope not.
