OK, I got "Fear" on my Nook last night and finished Chapter 1...

I'm shitting my pants now, and really "fear" what's next.

BTW, "Grand "Illusion" about Rudy and 9/11 ordered, too. I remember Rudy spouting off back then and wonder if I'm up to reliving those days.

FWIW, a NYC cop I know was talking about New Year's Eve (I forget which year) when Rudy ordered that anyone in a city hospital ER be put on life support until after midnight so deaths would be recorded for in next year.

Bigger scumbags are tough to find.

I don't know if it's still law (looked it up and found it was still true in 2012) but in NY State, once you're on life support, you are on it, period. Life support cannot be discontinued. We had this discussion with my elderly father when he refused to fill out a living will. That fact changed his mind - the decision is not up to the family or physicians, but the state.

Rudy was talking about extending life support beyond what was legal or sensible. Ethical, even.

My understanding was the hospitals told him to shove it and the idea was dropped.
