Hardly of national interest. Still news.
An animal-rescue charity that cancelled -- but then un-cancelled -- an event at @realdonaldtrump's Mar-a-Lago last year has announced it will not allow its workers to wear Nike shoes.

Employees at Big Dog Ranch Rescue should bring their work ethic and love of animals to the no-kill shelter.
But, wear their Nike sneakers? Just dont do it.
Big Dog president Lauree Simmons has banned the sneaker and apparel brand from the campus of the Loxahatchee Groves dog rescue organization, which counted President Trumps daughter-in-law, Lara Trump as a co-chair of a March 10 luncheon at Mar-a-Lago. Two upcoming Big Dog fundraisers are planned for Trump properties in Palm Beach and Jupiter.
Big Dog workers say they are forbidden from wearing the brand on campus, and if they are found wearing Nike sneakers, they will be sent home.

The move came after Nike once known for its Just Do It marketing slogan made former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick the face of its 30th anniversary advertising for its Believe in Something campaign.
....
I think its extremely disrespectful to the brave men and women who have gone and fought for this country, Simmons said of kneeling during the anthem. ... You live in America. This is your country. Respect your national anthem and respect your flag, Simmons said. If you dont like this country and the way things are run, move to another country, but dont disrespect our national anthem.

(6,212 posts)saying what brand of sneakers you can or cannot wear is wrong and goes beyond a dress code.

(37,748 posts)Dress codes state one must/is unable to wear a particular style of clothing, not a particular brand.
At that point, it's no longer a dress code, but a social position.

(1,020 posts)If they are willing to lose donations because of the brand of your sneakers, then the welfare of the dogs is not their top priority. And as a former co-guardian (along with my ex) of six big dogs, I'm not giving any money to a place that *claims* to have the welfare of the dogs as their top priority but then turns into Torqemada The Grand Inquisitor when checking out my shoes.
FSCK THEM.

Update: Early Thursday afternoon, Big Dog Ranch Rescue clarified its no-Nike ban, saying it was a personal offer by the founder and not an employee policy. ... If people dont want to participate, they dont have to, said Big Dog spokesman Chase Scott. ... Scott said Big Dog President Lauree Simmons would pay at her own expense to replace Nike sneakers worn by employees if they wanted to. But they didnt have to: She understands its a free country, Scott said. ... And if volunteers wear Nikes, or people wanting to adopt dogs are wearing Nikes, thats OK, too, Scott said.
The move follows a pounding on social media by donors, volunteers and other members of the public, upset that the dog rescue group was banning Nike sneakers by workers at the Loxahatchee Groves facility, due to Nikes ad campaign with Colin Kaepernick.
At midday Thursday, Big Dog Ranch Rescue posted a response on its Facebook page: Big Dog Ranch Rescue has saved over 27,000 dogs and that is our only mission. The founders personal offer to replace Nike shoes for those employees who wish to participate was not political and was intended to honor Veterans. It was a personal offer from the founder at her own expense and is not an employee policy. The founders father was an Air Force Veteran and the organization is proud to work with PTSD Veterans and supports those individuals and their families who sacrifice for our country.

(65,009 posts). . .that if people were wearing Jordan brand shoes, nobody would notice because, no swoosh, and they don't know it's the same damned company.
I see they took it back, but this was just stupid in the first place.
Also, i agree with others above that it's not a dress code. A dress code would be "NO SNEAKERS". Telling people they have to buy a different brand of shoe (when they already own the world's most popular brand) is not a dress code.
On Edit: They intended to enforce the policy/rule (i know they saying it's a statement not a policy, but that's a lie) on VOLUNTEERS? People working there out of the goodness of their heart are told what kind of clothing they can and cannot wear? Even stupider.
