Hurricane example of what we're fighting: just watched a good 'ole boy interviewed

by Jim Cantore of The Weather Channel in Wilmington, NC.

This guy was a shop owner. Cantore happened to be on the street where the shop was located and the owner was there to inspect some hurricane damage. One of his glass street front windows was broken. He had boarded up, but this guy had boarded up INSIDE the window. What kind of idiot does that? Cantore got him to explain his thinking and his response was totally irrational.

I'll wager you this guy is a Trumpster. Doesn't believe in science. Doesn't believe informed, educated people and their advice.

Depending on what the building was made of, it sometimes makes more sense to put the plywood on the WhiskeyGrinder Sep 2018 #6
Can you explain that? maxsolomon Sep 2018 #9
It's much more about protecting the contents of the building. WhiskeyGrinder Sep 2018 #10

probably by flying debris because he didn't board up to protect the glass.

His store was in a section of town where shops were built side by side with concrete, brick, substantial building materials. Not a strip mall situation.

Asking her why she was staying?

Part of her answer was "we have a WHOLE house generator plus the storm is slowing down"

I couldn't hear his response but they cut her right off. I thought that's something a trump believer would say.

she is fine. Biggest danger from this storm is the water, not the wind.

Will be extremely sucky for the next week or 2 though.

They were afraid attaching the plywood from the outside would have cracked the glass. Like many storefronts, the glass frame / mount did not provide an option for screws to attach the plywood. Such a frame could be created, but not yesterday when they were boarding up.

I don't know the politics of the owner, but Wilmington is a relatively liberal community, frequently compared with Asheville. So I would be slow to assume either way. Please remember, not everything is about Trump.

The store, the inventory, all ok. The pane of glass is probably insured.

I'll wager the guy knew what he was doing, but is incapable of handling a television interview. I can relate.

Cantore asked him if he lived near by and he answered that he lived in Mason Inlet. VERY pricey part of town north of Wrightsville Beach. This is a guy with $$. The inlet was relocated with an $8 million project in 2002 and was then the object of a privately funded multi-million dollar project (by the homeowners) a couple of years ago to maintain it. There's very little parking to access the area, so it's basically a private beach for the homeowners and guests of Shell Island Resort.
