Witness Protection Program for Manafort's Family?

“Tough day for Mr. Manafort,” Kevin Downing, Manafort’s attorney, said outside the D.C. courthouse on Friday. “But he’s accepted responsibility … He wanted to make sure that his family was able to remain safe and live a good life.”

That’s what I have been thinking! The one thing Mueller had in his pocket that Trump didn’t have-protection from the Russians for Manafort’s family.

who Manafort was if he suddenly moved in next door? Maybe Mrs. Manafort could disappear...but Paul has a very well known face.

This little port town is actually physically connected to Canada, though it's legally in the state of Washington. Because it's so difficult to get to (you'd have to show your US passport to enter Canada, then your US passport to enter Point Roberts), it's been used to hide witnesses after their testimony.

It seems like a nice town, though the houses aren't cheap.

It's also difficult to get regular medical there. Unless you can afford insurance in Canada you would need to jump through the border hoops and travel to doctors/hospitals which would still be quite far. It is quiet and sleepy up there. And nothing is cheap in the PNW anymore...

Point Roberts up here in the NW was a fairly well known Witness Protection haven. The town is actually in Canada and only accessible via boat or land border crossing. It gives a layer of security with it's location. But these folks aren't followed by security 24/7. Russian "Mob" is pretty ruthless. I believe he has been a dead man walking for sometimes. Hope for his family's sake he has enough disposable cash to hire security.

In the Enron scandal, he prosecuted family members to force cooperation from the principals. He may have threatened to do that to Manafort's family.
