watching Morning Joe re Kavanaugh

and no one is asking the question or making the point that despite the difficulty of validating Dr. Ford's allegation of sexual misconduct, and Kavanaugh's denial, what does it say when you add the denial to the other allegations of perjury by Kavanaugh?

Is this not just another example of a guy lacking integrity and ethics? How can someone like this be appointed to the Supreme Court?

connected these dots.

Joe's not talking morality this morning, Mika's hypocritical murmurs aside. He's talking politics. Some big developments here, hopefully total game changers.

The Republicans are complaining that we didn't produce Ms. Ford 2 months ago so they'd have time to swiftboat her into having to leave the country. Now they don't have time.

They also apparently don't have time to confirm a different candidate before the midterms. Would ramming this one through, with national discussion of who he is and what they did continuing afterward, cost them their senate majority?

Those senate Democrats for whom voting against Kavanaugh might have thrown their seats to Republicans now may just have an excuse their voters can accept.

Etcetera. Big doings. Our senators have managed to significantly improve our positions regarding both Kavanaugh and what happens on November 6.

before the committee, and the likes of Cruz lay into her, it could do massive damage to be seen as victimising her all over again, with only 50+ days left to Nov 6th. Then do they bring Kavanaugh back before them, to give his side ? OR does McConnell do a Feck You and press ahead with the vote, which could blow up in his face ? Especially the pressure that would put on Collins and Murkowski, plus all the Midterm campaigns.

The great thing is Dr Ford seems credible and has passed a lie detector test. You can be sure they will be trying to destroy her character but even that is fraught with danger.

He easily made the confirmation, with the help of Democrats, despite the Anita Hill allegations, which IMO were very real, more recent in time, and involved the workplace, and he was very much an adult. It did not involve physical aggression, but it was a lewd, offensive, and somewhat physical encounter...and the lewdness wasn't a one-time thing.

Still, the MEN had no problem with that. They compared it to Michael Jackson's sister's book, telling all about Michael Jackson and young boys. The shock to them was not Michael Jackson's behavior, but that his sister would write a book about it! So, that was the mentality. Why would a woman try to ruin a man's reputation by telling all, even if true?

I hope we've progressed past those days. We'll see.

Miki is showing disdain for the Democrats. Contrary to Mika's assertion that the Democrats were in possession of the accuser's account for "several months" and that they decided to hold it back for some strategic advantage, the truth is that Democrats were in possession of the information for only six weeks (not "several months" ) before it was forwarded to the FBI. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's letter is dated July 30, and a copy of it it was received by Senator Feinstein's office shortly after that date. Dr. Ford asked that the information in the letter be treated confidentially. It was this past week, after there occurred a leak which revealed the existence of the letter, that Senator Feinstein forwarded the letter to the FBI. In a matter of days thereafter, Dr. Ford, through her attorney, notified the Senate Judiciary Committee that she elected to publicly reveal her identity as the author of the letter and to have the contents of the letter published by the media.

During this morning's Morning Joe show, and during this past Friday's Morning Joe show, Mika used the word "dirty" as a possible fit description for Democrats' actions in this matter. I have had it with Mika, and I do not care to watch her on the show.

On edit September 18: The post was corrected to read that Senator Feinstein did not forward a copy of the letter to the FBI immediately after she receive it, but, rather, she held the letter in confidence for six weeks until a leak revealed its existence.

There is nothing more deleterious to the political discussion this country than the "they are both the same" frame.

Yes, 1/3 of the country is full on right wing loons.

But, the middle 1/3 leans right strongly in great part due to evil liberal boogyman frames. And, when the media RELENTLESSLY pushes this false equivilency bullshit, it defaults the mushy headed middle into defaulting to R because liberals are craven, america hating scumbags.

As a general rule I refuse to watch the shitshow because you have Mika doing her bullshit, dismissive thing against Ds. And, JS, who was just a big of a jackass in the 90s as the current assholes are when he was in congress doing all the false equivalency he does.

I did watch some of a segment least week, which only confirmed why I don't watch it - Joe was on a rant abou how the country gets entangled in the middle east, timidly mentioned how W "overreached" with Iraq for about 2 seconds, then seriously and far more steadfastly hammered BHO for NOT getting more involved in Syria, leading from behind bullshit ...

On the D party's worst day, it is INFINITELY better than the current incarnation of the R party, and frankly, even before now it was simply just MUCH better.

Until this country gets past this both are the same mindset, and calls the R party for the deranged, power hungry, craven shitshow it is, we are going to be stuck where we are.

I'm not necessarily talking about just the two hosts and substitute hosts. But it has guests from both parties on its show.

It's balanced, in my view. If it slants at all, it slants left. But overall, it's balanced.

I don't think over-partisan people can view things like that objectively. If there are four guests that are on one side, and one guest on the other...the viewer on the side with the 4 guests focuses on all the "terrible" things said by the one on the other side, and why did the show give him so much time.

Scarborough has been vocal about the Repub Party having lost its way, become divisive, supporting neoNazis, becoming the Trump Party, etc. In fact, he has left the Republican Party until it returns to some semblance of normalcy.

I wouldn't bet on Susan Collins or Lisa Murkowski for nay votes. Murkowski replaced her father in the Senate. Her father voted for Clarence Thomas. Susan Collins is the Republican from Maine; the Maine Republican Senator voted to confirm Clarence Thomas. Although both of those predecessors were white males, who do have a different viewpoint of sexual violation allegations, sometimes seeing them as possibly false. This is a concern of many men...that they can be falsely accused of such things at any time.
