On Tuesday, The Guardian published excerpts from an obtained copy of Stormy Daniels not-yet-published, tell-all memoir Full Disclosure, in which she describes a number of troubling events: her 2006 sexual encounter with Donald Trump; her mounting disbelief as she watched him gain traction during the 2016 primaries; her fear that she might be in danger as he got closer and closer to the presidency; and her agreement to sign a $130,000 hush agreement. (Trump has denied the alleged affair, though he has admitted to authorizing his personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, to pay Daniels for her silence, and Cohen later pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to the payoff.)
Yet one detail of the book the Guardian revealed has had the Internet in a frenzy: Daniels description of Trumps genitals as like the mushroom character in Mario Kart. Images of the character, Toad, were instantly memed and Mario Kart trended on Twitter. Reactions were a mixture of horror at having to imagine Trumps junk, and glee to have such a sensitive detail about him to mock. But it brought up a larger question: Is it ok to dick-shame the president?
In January, the results of Trumps physical exam which showed him to be just shy of obesity, according to the Body Mass Index launched a debate over whether or not it was OK to fat-shame him. On the one hand, there was the argument that Trump body-shames everyone, from Miss Universe contestants to Rosie ODonnell, and that the best way to get under the skin of a petty, vain man is to attack his physical appearance. On the other hand was the more compelling argument that mocking Trumps weight on Twitter or in an op-ed hell never read wont hurt him, but it will hurt fat people who actually see it; that tying your disdain for Trump to his weight only reinforces harmful ideas of fatness as connected to moral failure and fat people as unlovable. To protect and support all of the overweight people out there who arent trying to block immigration into this country or undercut the publics trust in journalism, its better to focus anti-Trump sentiments on his personality and his policies, not his body.
But does the same rule apply to making fun of his penis? Surely its tempting to mock anything we can about the president, especially something so closely tied with ideas of masculinity and power, when his desperation for those things is so transparent. And this is not the kind of information that was ever going to sail through the Internet quietly.

Personally I could care less about Trump's junk but I think not using a condom when cheating on your wife or lasting only two minutes are not things to be proud of.

No, but it attacks his supporters who do follow twitter and read op-eds. It's not easy to support someone or something that is heavily ridiculed by so many others.

(115,681 posts)I hope mushroom jokes populate the Internet for the rest of his presidency (which I also hope won't be much longer). I hope some nervy reporter asks him a sly question about Mario Kart, or whether he likes mushrooms on his steaks, or whether he believes yetis exist. I hope the word "choad" makes a resurgence and is spoken in the same breath with the word "Trump." I don't hope that he tweets dick pics using the emergency texting system.

(63,221 posts)He has a habit of shaming other people for anything and everything. He completely deserves it. Besides, humiliating him in that department is one of the best ways to drive him insane. He prides himself on being a ladies man, but he obviously doesn't cut it and I think that should be publicly known. Maybe that will be a signal to all rapists and womanizers that they are susceptible to being shamed as well.
Anything that humiliates him and causes him shame is fine with me.

As he soooo ooooooo elegantly spoke on that bus. His remark has caused me so much depression and heart ache.

Not a popular opinion here but it is what it is. It says the measure of a man is the size of his genitals. Thats damaging. But by all means, DU should carry on.

(14,962 posts)If he finds this to be appropriate behavior, then he should not be bothered when it is turned around on him.
If he is bothered by it, I'm not particularly fussed -- he should treat people better if he wants to be treated better.
Having said that, let's put this dick-shaming into context: this isn't dick-shaming a random person, or non-public figure, or a public figure who has avoided speaking about their sex-life and/or penis in public. TRUMP TALKED ABOUT HIS DICK DURING A GOP PRIMARY DEBATE.
The only people who could cry "unfair!" to dick-shaming with less credibility would be nude models and porn performers.

(4,407 posts)This stuff doesn't serve anyone. Let's talk about the Tariff that could throw us into an inflationary recession, the confirmation proceedings for a sexual predator with a gambling problem, or the fact we literally have a Russian asset as our chief executive. I don't think the resistance needs this.

(8,445 posts)I've seen more than a couple of penises in my life, but I've never seen one that I would describe as resembling a mushroom, so to me it's unique, if not odd. I'm curious about how -45 is explaining to Melania the reason that Stormy knows what his penis looks like.
I'm not going to admonish anyone for ridiculing -45 for ANYTHING, simply because he deserves everything that's thrown at him. We've got enough ammo against this decrepit creature to ridicule without going after his physical self, but my loathing for him is so off the charts that I'm tempted to attack anything and everything about him. I hate that I allow someone like him to bring out something in me that would cause me to be tempted to ridicule something unique about another person.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)It's okay. It's okay to shame him about his obesity (he's not just shy of obesity...he IS obese), if the shamer relates it to Trump's body shaming of others. Penis talk is fine, since he caused it by picking up a porn actress who was selling sex toys in the lobby of his hotel. When you troll the gutter world, it comes back to bite you sometimes.
It's okay. He set the rules. These are his rules.

(10,893 posts)I always hated how loosely the "shaming" phrase gets thrown around in general. It's as if every little criticism of something is labeled as (insert trait)-shaming. He'll be fine and continue on with his daily ritual of Twitter fights, bullying, and lies. I don't feel sympathy for him at all.

No... But, this man is an exception. Crooked Donald and his behavior have given the public permission to discuss his genitals. Remember, in one of the televised debates, he bragged about the size of his penis. So, he wants the topic to be discussed.
