Texas superintendent 'totally regrets' racist Facebook comment on black NFL quarterbacks

A school superintendent in Texas who wrote online that football fans “can’t count on a black quarterback” now says he “totally regrets” the racist remark.

Lynn Redden, superintendent of the Onalaska Independent School District, said Monday that he wishes he never made the comment, which came in regards to Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Redden raised eyebrows Monday when he left the remark in the Facebook comments section of a Chron.com article about the Texans’ 20-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans Sunday.

“That may have been the most inept quarterback decision I’ve seen in the NFL. When you need precision decision making you can’t count on a black quarterback,” he wrote, referring to Watson holding the ball for a lengthy amount of time as the clock continued to tick and time eventually expired.

Redden told Chron.com that he thought he was responding to a private message from a friend and did not know his comment had been posted publicly.

He said he deleted it as soon as he realized it was out on the internet for the world to see, and wishes “it had never been posted.”

share his racist thought with. When he says "he thought he was responding to a private message from a friend", he somehow thinks that makes his racist views OK, and that just compounds the problem of having someone like that in a position of power over schools with black students.
