We Dems tend to be, (for the most), somewhat honest, when it comes to politics. And that's the reason we have been at a great disadvantage, (and totally fucked), since the pricks who worked for Richard Nixon came up with "The Southern Strategy."
"The Southern Strategy."A phrase that was invented to avoid the use of the word ni**er. A statement that emphasized the necessity to not let ni**ers vote, in order to ensure that Nixon "won" the entire South in order to become president.
Nixon "won" the presidency because of this strategy. (Actually, he did it twice.) And the Republican Party learned a lesson they never forgot and are still practicing today throughout the entire country. (Hatred, racism and bigotry works well at election time.)
Yeah, we know they have Fox "news," Limbaugh, and dozens of other radio/TV/online propagandists and/or fools spewing the shit they're selling.
But the South, and many other states, in the west, vote for Republicans because they're, -- well, they're Republicans who drank the Kool-Aid.
How do you go about curing people who don't know that their votes are contributing to fucking up of their own healthcare, their retirement benefits, and the countless other benefits that they worked their entire lives to earn. Not "stuff" that the government gives to them out of "kindness." But benefits they've earned.
The Republican propaganda machine, for many reasons, has convinced many people to hate any and all Democrats, and to vote for any Republican.
So the reality is that the Republican Party, through their propaganda (their misinformation machine) has convinced millions of people to vote to fuck themselves.
We Democrats have fallen way behind in the information war. Non-stop propaganda beats reality every time. Somehow, someway, someday, we must, MUST, find a way to get the American people to tune in to reality.
Right now, propaganda is winning the day, winning the country, and winning the spoils of the "war" they're waging against us and reality.
So do we fight back? Do we just bitch about their lies? Or do we go on the attack to make the truth widely spread, broadcast far and near, and try to make truth known to the people who are voting to screw themselves?
We need a gigantic megaphone to get the truth out. It does't exist right now. At this moment, the Republicans are own that megaphone. And if we don't quickly find a way to get the truth out, we're fucked beyond repair.
The upcoming election is critical. Vote. Even if you have to crawl to the poll.

(13,305 posts)....the number of issues that have devolved to the point of all discussions and negotiations being started from a point of agreement on any number of bullshit Republican positions is not helping us at all.
Taxes are bad.
The free market is good.
Regulations are burdensome
The stock market is a barometer of the economy
Abortion is a bad
Republicans want to work with Democrats
The military is good
Evangelical Christians are sincere in their beliefs
We don't want to take away your guns
When any discussion of any of these specific or general subjects starts with these things taken as truths and made to seem as though our disagreements are more around the edges than at the fundamental core of these issues, it is much easier for misinformation to take root.
Also, too many of our elected officials reluctance to call the GOP liars. Flat out ratfucking liars.
You have highlighted so much of their hypocrisy.
It has always seemed incredible to me that any thinking, sane person can't see them for what they, what they are trying to do to us, and don't recognize that they are trying to destroy our freedoms.
The real bottom line is that they are a threat to what we Americans are and what we take for granted. We are really on the very edge of losing it all. And far too many people are clueless as to the possible impending disaster.

thbobby, your post has defined the history of humanity. And if decent human beings continue to bury their heads in the sand when attacked, the forces of darkness will continue to triumph.

(1,474 posts)I think about when despotic states come to power. In WW2, Germany and Japan had a long series of victories at the start of the war. But as the rest of the world woke up to their evil, they became motivated and soundly defeated them. Perhaps we are in a similar time now. The evil of the gop has been clearly exposed by trump. Gop claims of family values, love of country, support of the law, and Christain values have been shown to be hyperbole. The American Sleeping Giant is waking. Let's just hope it is in time to save our country. But there will be scars from this ordeal for years to come.
