There's already lots of trash on him that should disqualify him: It's this corrupt gangster GOP that is making this into B>S> theater: They haven't done their jobs and want everything to be a circus.
Plus, they'll act fairly with her on air, and then send their surrogates out to attack her, when they can't get caught.
It's all a sham, and this woman's life is real. I don't blame her for her indecision. I have no idea what I'd do in her place.

(4,341 posts)They have thrown the country and the World into chaos
They have reversed many of the good bills Obama passed
They passed their corrupt tax reform bill that only helps their base of millionaires and themselves
They put a monkey who can use a pen in the WH
They have cheated in the elections to gain power with no real accountability
They have done away with a number of regulations that protected consumers
They have alienated our allies and allowed Putin to gain control
etc., etc.
That they have not done the job of the people, for the people is another story, but then again, they never set themselves up to do that, their agenda has always been to control and enrich themselves. That little flag on republicans lapel is just for show, they don't give a damn about the country or its citizens, it is all about them.

(10,437 posts)incredible damage to all the other women who have had similar experience. If she is NOT made of a "hero material" she should have said nothing to begin with....with her failure to stand tall, the damage will be f*cking immense to women in general.

(6,546 posts)Your post walks a fine line that borders on victim blaming. She brought this out into the open. She had no control over how it would be handled. Anger should be for the Republicans, not the victim in my opinion.
To give some context. I live in a borough of 2,000 people. 40 years ago the local "mafia" wanted to put in a coal cleaning plant "in a flood zone." We had the largest number of people attend our council meeting. Some how I ended up being the spokesperson against this plant. The "mafia" had fudged their data but at a hearing a local person with the fish commission exposed their rigged data. The hearing was heated and later that night the Don of the mafia died from a heart attack. The fish commission person immediately was blamed and he and his family got death threats. I think back to that time and realize that I could have also gotten those death threats. The lies of the "mafia" were exposed and the coal plant was defeated. Make no mistake, I knew the people I was dealing with and I spent many sleepless nights just because I was trying to do the right thing.
I eventually was asked to run for borough council, which I did, and served 2 terms.
I have a small understanding of the pressure that professor Ford must be under because I experienced some of it in my small town of 2,000 people.

(17,981 posts)Do not doubt for one minute that Dr. Ford is not telling the truth. This woman suffered for many years before deciding to speak. She is being treated worse than Anita Hill and this is more serious than harrassment in an office.
You do not get all the people who signed the letter if these things were not prevalent in that School atmosphere.
And do not forget the Judge book.

(4,507 posts)We know why they aren't but this does not mean she has to be silent about an attempted rape she endured.
I'm sure this pig has done similar or worse in the years since. And if there are other victims I hope they come forward as well.

(9,886 posts)I would not have come forward at all because the fallout is predictable and not something I would have wanted to deal with. To me, the completely predictable shitstorm would be worse than the actual event. Someone else's mileage may vary.
I don't believe that this is victim blaming. This woman was a victim of the original act and any current bullying. However, when you are considering dropping a bombshell like this, in the current atmosphere, that affects national events, the blowback cannot be a surprise and you have to consider the very significant consequences of your actions and reactions.

(7,142 posts)How sad isn't it? That this is an acceptable response by the Republicans. Would Democrats have reacted the same way? Would that have been the "blowback" from them?
Ah, the narrative is even repeated here on DU.
would have acted exactly like the Repubs are reacting, in my opinion. Democrats are not innocent when it comes to screaming conspiracy and set up at Republicans when a Democratic ox is being gored.

God dammit this pisses me off.
THIS IS NOT HER FAILURE!
This is a failure of our country to protect our girls and women from sexists, misogynists and rapists. This is a failure of society.
THIS IS UGLY VICTIM BLAMING. This is the failure right here.
THE ONUS IS ON THE ABUSERS, THEIR ENABLERS, THEIR DEFENDERS, THE PATRIARCHY.
Ugggh.

(9,287 posts)And mass murders are now so frequent that these are covered like house fires on the local news. In Pennsylvania, just yesterday, a man charged with a strangulation assault of his partner shot up the court before being shot. A second man lost his divorce and then shot his 80 year old parents before driving his car into his ex wifes house and shooting at her before committing suicide.
I have no doubt that an angry white man with a gun would attempt to kill Prof Ford. I cant second guess her decision.
