Trump Should Be More Worried About the Brennan Dossier

Donald Trumps decision to declassify some documents related to the Russia investigation demonstrate that he continues to be obsessed about the Steele dossier. What is becoming increasingly clear is that he should be more worried about what we might call the Brennan dossier.
Today the Washington Post published an excerpt from Greg Millers book, The Apprentice: Trump, Russia and the Subversion of American Democracy. Heres the relevant portion in which he discusses the office at the CIA known as Russia House.

What we know based on previous reporting from the Washington Post is that not only did Brennan request a meeting with Obama, at about the same time he sent the president a dossier that he had compiled.
Early last August, an envelope with extraordinary handling restrictions arrived at the White House. Sent by courier from the CIA, it carried eyes only instructions that its contents be shown to just four people: President Barack Obama and three senior aides.
Inside was an intelligence bombshell, a report drawn from sourcing deep inside the Russian government that detailed Russian President Vladimir Putins direct involvement in a cyber campaign to disrupt and discredit the U.S. presidential race.

(32,622 posts)It's all coming out sooner or later, but Clapper and Brennan will follow the intelligence handling rules that these professionals live by. Cheeto will never understand or appreciate their commitment to our country, or to the intelligence community.
This scenario took place while PBO was still President, so it has to be from 2 years ago. Obama did discuss the info with a select few people on his staff who were sworn to secrecy. I'm pretty sure that's when his hair turned gray.

(43,123 posts)if all the while everyone is focused on Steele that another parallel line of inquiry had some other very useful angles
It's a principle of the highest circles of finance, those who make the money and sort of control the market, to take a countervailing trade - the opposite position to everything. Brokers do it, and don't tell us, investment banks sometimes do it. It's a way of managing risk.
This is a way of managing risk. If the Steele dossier went dry, there are more threads to pursue.
They always say no one would want to play chess with Obama. I sure wouldn't want John Brennan as an opponent either.

Brennan was on this morning. Nothing is slowing him down!

(5,995 posts)Mitch refused and essentially committed political blackmail by threatening the President with howls of partisanship.
The FBI in the SDNY slow walking the Steele Dossier that corroborated Brennan's work left Obama with a tough call to avoid tainting an HRC admin.
Essentially Putin went all in and regardless of the outcome, the US would be wounded.
HRC would have been fought at every turn by the GOP and endless Congressional investigations would've filled the airways with innuendo to feed the conspiracy trolls.
But, we got what we have now, a government that is cannibalizing it's own people to the advantage of soulless oligarchs and heartless religo-fascists.
The only glimmer I can see is a Blue Wave to sweep out the loose trash on Congress and a hope the renewed opposition majority can then root out the entrenched GOP rot before 2020.

(6,810 posts)This has been orchestrated for a *very* long time and wasn't going to be pulled off by just supporting the candidacy of some halfwit reality TV star awash with Russian Mafia money. Putin *literally* went to school on methods of destabilizing the United States, for fuck's sake.

This confirms one of the main points of the Steele dossier.
Dossier Claim: Putin Was in Charge
Revelation: On the very first page of the dossier, Steele explains that the election meddling was endorsed by Putin and that the effort was both supported and directed by him. The U.S. intelligence report reached the same conclusion, writing that Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the presidential election. According to Steeles sources, Putin and Russia had been cultivating Trump for at least 5 years.

(33,320 posts)One of the crazy conspiracy theories that the RWNJ were tossing around prior to 2016 was that Obama would declare martial law, cancel the election, and anoint himself President-For-Life. It would not surprise me if it turned out that was pushed by the same Russian operation that was meddling with the campaigns and election. If Obama went public with the documents showing that meddling, the nutjob "base" could be mobilized to riot to discredit the idea of meddling.

But I think there's a full record there and there are individuals at the agency who can provide the insight to Bob Mueller's team that they need," Brennan said.
