(52,155 posts)Frankly, when I was in my late teens and early 20's I didn't think I would see 50. I was lucky as I never got sick but it was luck not any thing I did. We lost so many great people, both famous and not. There is a film called 1985 which is on the festival circuit that is amazing. If you get a chance you need to see it. It is about a man in his 20's coming home for likely the last time back in 1985.

(19,043 posts)It's absolutely heartbreaking, the loss was too much and was not necessary. A terrible disease struck the country and no one in the government did a thing about it because they were happy people from this group were dying.
Do not forget why this turned into the plague in the gay community that it did, it was because of inaction by the White House and inaction throughout all levels of government. Had action been taken immediately countless lives would have been spared.
The Reagan administration and later the HW Bush one were awful on AIDS. For all of his problems, W Bush actually was pretty good on AIDS.
