Root is a right-wing radio host, Trumpobsessed sycophant, and radical conspiracy theorist who has repeatedly claimed that the 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas was carried out by ISIS and asserted that DNC staffer Seth Rich was murdered on the orders of high-ranking Democrat officials.
Root has said that most straight men are scared of transgender people, claimed that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are gay, declared that liberals were responsible for the overdose death of former Fox News host Eric Bollings son, and suggested that Mollie Tibbets was somehow responsible for her own death because she foolishly went running outside.
On his radio show last year, Root declared that Megyn Kelly has struggled in the ratings since leaving Fox News because all liberal men are gay and that is because all liberal women are ugly:

(14,565 posts)I've mentioned him here many times previously. He started in the Las Vegas sport betting scene 25 or 30 years ago, ranting about lock of the century and crap like that.
Then another Las Vegan named Papa Joe Chevalier started turning his own sports radio show into nothing but rants against liberals every day. He had a ready made audience with all the right wing nutcases in the local sports betting scene.
Root realized that he could take it further, and he did, first with rambling letters to the editor to the fishwrapper known as the Las Vegas Review Journal. Those letters were so unhinged he became known for it and he turned his radio show into a daily version of the letters to the editor.

(20,629 posts)of recall him expressing some RW leanings, but I guess he decided to let his freak flag fully fly sometime after that.
Thom Hartmann used to regularly debate Root on his show in recent years, but I've been listening to other stuff since I went to SiriusXM.

(14,565 posts)"Liberals stand for nothing"
That became his daily theme, with barely any sports commentary surrounding it

(14,565 posts)Jimmie "Dy-no-mite" Walker became a Stardust regular in the mid '90s and well into the 2000s. Yes, that Jimmie Walker. He loved to bet the oddball stuff like Canadian Football and the daily "Grand Salami," which is the total of how many goals would be scored in all the NHL games put together that night.
I had a sports score pager in the '90s. Jimmie often would stop me and ask the score of a hockey game. Invariably he'd say something like, "Damn...I need 2 more goals."
Another good guy was Jack Maxwell, who does the "Booze Traveler" show on Travel Channel. Maxwell arrived in town as a young pretty boy who was brought in to host some of the weekly syndicated handicapping shows. Some of us dismissed him as not much of anything until we met him at the Imperial Palace during the '90s, between breaks while he taped those shows in the sportsbook. Genuinely nice guy who would remember your name, greet you the next week, and also had an interesting take on some of the games along with the betting aspect.

(14,565 posts)Months after a stroke paralyzed him
I knew he died but I had to look up the details.
He was always overweight and he smoked and drank frequently whenever I saw him hanging out in the sportsbooks

(15,322 posts)Makes you wonder why he still has a radio show. At the very least it makes you wonder why there aren't a thousand people on the sidewalk in front of his stations studio and offices.
These cookiecutter hate talkers are like cockroaches. If you do nothing to stomp them out, they breed and spread everywhere.

(100,064 posts)If we protest outside their stations would that mean that we are protesting free speech? No one wants to be on that side. That would be an instant campaign killer.
