(51,584 posts)"It turns out that the Keystone Cops detective work by conservative legal activist Ed Whelan which set Washington abuzz with the promise of exonerating Brett Kavanaugh, only to be met by mockery and then partially retracted was not his handiwork alone.
CRC Public Relations, the prominent Alexandria, Virginia-based PR firm, guided Whelan through his rollercoaster week of Twitter pronouncements that ended in embarrassment and potentially a setback for Kavanaughs hopes of landing on the high court, according to three sources familiar with their dealings.
After suggesting on Twitter Tuesday that he had obtained information that would exculpate Kavanaugh from sexual assault allegations made by Christine Blasey Ford, Whelan worked over the next 48 hours with CRC and its president Greg Mueller to stoke the anticipation. A longtime friend of Kavanaughs, Whelan teased his forthcoming reveal even as he refused to discuss it with other colleagues and close friends, a half dozen of them said. At the same time, he told them he was absolutely confident the information he had obtained would exculpate the judge.

(12,904 posts)I may be missing it from your story.
But, I saw that Dr. Ford had said that this guy had tried to access her social media before her name had been made public...information he would have had to obtain from the White House.
The White House immediately set this guy on her in a second attack. I would think the FBI will know this by now.

(9,580 posts)Whelan was going to try to pin it on another person who looked like Kavanaugh, and then withdrew his accusation.
The other thing was that Whelan searched her out (Dr. Ford) BEFORE her name was leaked.
Busy little bee, that guy.

(15,278 posts)1. Ford spoke to the WaPo
2. WaPo (likely) called the WH for comment thus giving them Ford's name
3. Whelan starts searching Ford's name via the internet
4. WaPo publishes story
In the time between Ford talking to the Post and the time the Post published the story, Whelan knew Ford's name and began doing internet research on her. The logical conclusion is that Whelan was given Ford's name by someone at the WH. Further, since Kavanaugh spent most of the last 3 days ensconced at the WH, it's not a reach to think that Kavanaugh knew of (or was even in on) Whelan's plan to pin the blame on someone else.
