The fictional Korean War Army nurse Maj. Margaret Hot Lips Houlihan of the 1970s series M*A*S*H may be the most recognized female soldier in television history.
But Loretta Swit, the actress who made Houlihan famous, is excited about spending time with the real-life women who have served in combat zones around the world.
Early Monday, shell catch a pre-dawn flight at Omahas Eppley Airfield along with 135 female Nebraska veterans who will fly to Washington, D.C., on Patriotic Productions latest, and last, of what organizers are calling Flights of Honor.
These women are just phenomenal, Swit said last week in a telephone interview from her home in New York. Im an actor. Thats what I do. But Im so proud to be associated with their courage, their stamina these heroes.

Her character on M*A*S*H was one that grew from being a nemesis to the protagonists to an ally - it was fascinating to watch over the course of the show.

was one of the greatest examples of character development in TV history. We weren't much of a TV family back then, but we never missed M*A*S*H.

The scene pictured above was after part of the mash unit was sent to the front lines, and they were just able to manage triage under appalling conditions and continual bombardment. Houlihan and Hawkeye attempt some rest together - with no artiface of romance- just two exhausted souls comforting each other during war.

can give local help to their home states and town. Appear on local news and ads.
Could be a real boost if it happens often enough.
