by Tamar Auber | Sep 21st, 2018, 10:43 pm
The White House reportedly told Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to issue a firmer denial of the New York Times bombshell.
In Rosensteins first denial he said this and indicated that he would not comment further:
Yet, hours later he issued a firmer denial stating: I never pursued or authorized recording the President and any suggestion that I have ever advocated for the removal of the President is absolutely false.
According to a CNN report, the reason Rosenstein decided to make a further and stronger statement was because the White House told him to do so.
Reporting from Missouri, the site of a Trump rally Friday night, CNNs Kaitlin Collins said that the second statement came after Rosenstein visited the White House after the story broke.

(6,797 posts)because if he could have talked cabinet members into filing the 25th amendment it would have been done way before now.

(21,646 posts)I know that is not what the OP is about . Just saw that mentioned and was disgusted . Trump does not deserve his POTUS salary and if anyone should be fired it's trump

(137 posts)Oh hes working, destroying the country. The judiciary the worst part. A democratic president will have a hell of a time getting things through after historic conservative judges getting on the court. Just in two years, trump put on more judges then any modern president. This is the worst thing of all. And there is a long list. The gutting of the state department is going to take decades to fix. The next democratic president is going to have a huge undertaking.

(137 posts)Bush did huge damage but trump is horrific in comparison. Having a Democratic Congress and President May not be enough. I know doom and gloom but thats how serious trump is destroying all departments.

(5,801 posts)but he donates it. He is still getting paid to do a job that Putin and the KGOP stole for him.
Donald Trump may have a negative net worth and has never been a billionaire. Why do you think he has a long history of failures and not paying bills?
His appearance of wealth comes from the flow of cash from money laundering and Russians. On paper he is a pauper and has used that as a reason not to pay taxes for decades.

(25,237 posts)This NYT story plays into the hands of Trump to fire Rosenstein. It gives Trump a reason. So why would the WH tell Rosenstein to issue a stronger denial of the NYT story? It doesn't make sense to me if Trump really wants to dump Rosenstein and ultimately kill the Mueller investigation. What am I missing?

(58,619 posts)From reporting of other outlets, the story is about 75% bogus. It's a Trumpian hit piece.
The proper response is a "so what" shrug, say "It didn't happen," and move on. Fighting it too hard feeds the denial brigades of Trumplodytes to say: "See, he's fighting hard! It must be true!"

(2,959 posts)breaking. His body language wasn't the comfortably smug way it noramall is when he's got a breaking scoop being discussed. I don't doubt people at the White House told Rosenstein to issue a stronger statement.
My first critical thought while watching it be reported live was "2017? Why is this being released inlate 2018? who is this story serving?"
I hate even being this close to defending the bottom feeders in this White House but I smell a faux news rat here.
