Should Donald Trump be a candidate for the 25th Amendment?

Last edited Sun Sep 23, 2018, 06:45 PM - Edit history (1)

If it was a PR war, which side would win? The side that says Donald Trump is crazy like a fox or the side that says Donald Trump is crazy like "not normal"?

The 25th Amendment was an early topic of conversation, about the time that Rod Rosenstein took over as Attorney-General and hired Robert Mueller as the Special Counsel. So as to keep it in perspective, this was also right after the National Security Adviser for the President of the United States was caught lying to the FBI about whether or not he was talking to the Russians out of school? And it took the Republican leadership about 18 more days to decide that they should fire General Flynn?

So there was a debate at that time, and it continues today, whether or not Donald Trump is stable enough to be the President of this country? He has already done much damage in a lot of people's eyes, although his supporters see little wrong with his trade policies, or his immigration policies, or his policies towards our allies, or his attitude towards the laws of this nation. It may sound like nothing more than a difference of opinion, but it is much, much more. Both facts and fantasy cannot match the truth.

There was a reason the discussion about 25th Amendment came up around May of last year. After Comey was fired, all hell broke loose. Trump indicated clearly where he was coming from. He almost decimated our State Dept. He was dangerous and reckless. Just because there are a few people around him, that are now controlling him a little better, does not mean he is any less dangerous or reckless.

The Democrats and Republicans will have to decide whether the situation is bad enough to impeach? Neither side can convict without the assistance of the other. That is the reality. And the 25th Amendment requires an even higher threshold to get rid of a President.

It is not only a critical time for the Republican Party, it is also a critical time for the Democratic Party. It is a critical time for our country.

Firing Rod Rosenstein does not absolve Donald Trump of any blame. It does not make him any more stable. It does not make him more innocent. It does not make him any more competent.

Republicans will have a "come to Jesus" moment after the election, depending on how desperate it might look to them? If they are voted out of power in both the House and Senate, it will be time for them to panic. What would they expect it to look like two years forward? It could be worse than Custer at Little Big Horn. They could be annihilated. That is the reality they will be facing.

The 25th was primarily to sort out Presidential succession. Sections 3 and 4 were almost afterthoughts to clean up the process.

Section 3 has been invoked several times, like when Presidents underwent some surgeries. It didn't exist when Ike had a hear attack and Nixon took over for a while. And it didn't exist when Edith Wilson took over the White House when Woody had a stroke. No doubt a lot of people remembered that.

A few tried to hang it on Reagan, saying he was out of it, but that came to naught.

Anyway, for it to work most of the cabinet has to agree he's nuts, and then you have who knows how many days of examinations and hearings until more Congresscritters have to agree than would be needed to impeach.

Do not ever forget that Clinton was impeached for lying about a long ago affair with Paula Jones, so impeaching Tangerine Wanker for colluding with Russians should be a slam dunk.

The Clinton investigation went on damn near forever, cost a bundle of money, and when it was over the Whitewater Investigation had nothing about Whitewater.

This is not going to happen until they have gotten what they came for.

Trump is not more "normal" today than he was on his first day in office. If anything, he is worse off.

So now, he stands up with his hair on fire, screaming, "I ain't crazy! I ain't crazy! I ain't crazy!"

And America is supposed to get all worked up because someone may have been discussing the 25th Amendment around May of last year!

This is a PR war he should not win.
