Could McConnell push through a new nominee in December? (Original Post) Alhena Sep 2018 OP

Senate is a long shot for the Democrats, but if the Democrats were able to regain both Houses somehow, that would be the best possible scenario.

If that happened all kinds of opportunities exist, the most important would be regarding the appointment of judges, and I would say there is a 50-50 chance that Kennedy's seat would remain vacant until 2020 because it is unlikely that the fearless leader will appoint someone who is qualified

Mueller's investigation also needs to complete to determine the feasibility of impeachment.

Even if Democrats pull off a miracle and retake the senate and raise holy hell about it... I think tradition says that they should wait, but Mitch has been pissing on tradition for years, and Trump doesn't even know what are traditions and what are not.

Supreme Court year, that person has to be seated by Oct 1st. That's why the Rs are rushing the confirmation vote, to get it done by that deadline.

Yes it would be nice for a new justice to have a clean start as if the first Monday in October, but they get to participate regardless.

If they're about to lose the senate, of course they will try to ram through all the nominations they can, including a justice if need be.

If they know they're losing the majority, that might make them united to confirm just about anyone right-wing.
