trump is going to force McConnell to do the dirty deed if it has to be done

Here's how I see it:

1. trump is starting to distance himself from Kavanaugh by stating he wasn't his first choice, it was the evangelicals that forced him to pick Kavanaugh.

2. Kavanaugh has zero options in his mind. It's either gonna be he fails to pass and gets booted from the bench OR he gets confirmed and is saddled forevermore as an unworthy justice. Hence, he's holding onto any chance to ascend and is just planning to sit there going "Neener, neener, neener, I got away with showing my wiener". He won't care that the only person who will eat lunch with him is Clarence Thomas. He doesn't care if his ascension destroys the repub midterms.

Soooo..... The only person left to end this travesty is McConnell, the guy you told trump to pick anybody else instead of Kavanaugh. I don't think he has the smarts or the balls to do the right thing.

he'll be greeted with tight, courteous smiles and then given the office in the basement and not allowed to keep his red stapler?

It's Trump's nominee.
I don't see Ronald McConnell bailing him out.
Unless they take it to a vote and light themselves (with Kavanaugh) on fire.
What a mess.

McConnell is going to let him die and if he doesn't withdraw lose on a vote in the Senate.

Maybe the next time Trump will listen to McConnell. He told Trump send anyone but Kavanaugh

And while McConnell and trump argue back and forth about who fucked up the repubs look even worse.

I choose this outcome!

In the US.

He will have the power to decide whether impeachment goes ahead or not.

by holding a vote, even if he knows he will lose narrowly. If the nomination is going to fail, a couple GOP Senators are going to have to become "traitors" by being the deciding vote against the party line, like McCain had to. That way Mitch and Trump can point at that Senator as the person whose fault it is.

8. seems like it would be unwise for Trump to throw evangelicals under the bus this close to November

then again, Trump often just does his own thing, fuck the math. so far it's working out for him. maybe he's gotten far enough into their heads that when Personal Jesus talks to them He uses Trump's voice.
