No normal, informed person who works every day for every dollar they own could possibly vote for a Republican. But they do. All the time.
I don't think they're any more intelligent or ignorant than any other average American.
I don't think they're any more sane or insane than most other Americans.
But I do think they are more filled with hatred of "The Other" (blacks, browns, non-"Christians" than the vast majority of Americans.
The problem is that the Republican Party has gerrymandered this minority into an electoral majority. They get to pick more congresspeople and senators than the majority get to elect. And this distorts and fucks up America beyond what it is meant to be.
So what are we going to do about it?
The only answer is for Democrats to vote in numbers vast enough to overcome the game that has been rigged by the Republicans. If we can't do that, we're screwed.
So, dear fellow Americans. If the Republicans keep the House and Senate this November, what are we going to do about it? Are we going to let our democracy disappear? Are we going to continue to let our freedoms be diminished? Are we really going to let America slip through our fingers?
Are you prepared to let that happen and do nothing about it?

(35,421 posts)The difference is that most Europeans will still vote their economic issues first. So much so, that the most extreme, racist, Nationalist parties in Europe never run against social spending or cutting essential government services for the most part.

I disagree with some of the key underpinnings of your premise, but embrace your call to action.
