The chief counsel of the Judicial Crisis Network, which has run an aggressive and well-funded campaign in support of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaughs confirmation, struggled on Wednesday to continue to support that confirmation in an interview just minutes after new allegations against Kavanaugh were revealed.
Earlier Wednesday, Julie Swetnick wrote in a sworn declaration released publicly that shed witnessed Kavanaugh fondle and grab girls without their consent in high school, target women at parties so they could be taken advantage of and participate in efforts with his friend Mark Judge to cause girls to become inebriated and disoriented so they could then be gang raped,' among other allegations. Swetnick alleged that she was herself a victim of gang rape at a party, and that Judge and Kavanaugh were present. Swetnick said she knew of several witnesses to this behavior.
The Judicial Crisis Networks chief counsel and policy director, Carrie Severino, told MSNBCs Craig Melvin shortly after the allegations were made public: We have to remember, corroboration doesnt mean I told someone a year ago or two years ago, it means actual contemporaneous evidence.
Certainly she says she has other witnesses, lets hear from them and I know thats what the Judiciary Committee is looking for, she added.
Severino argued that Thursdays hearing at which Christine Blasey Ford and Kavanaugh are set to testify regarding Blasey Fords sexual assault allegation against Kavanaugh should continue as planned, for the sake of bringing closure to that question.

(23,946 posts)all anyone is really asking for now...a full investigation.
And when did Judiciary want to hear from all the women? Is that something new or something's she made up as she reads the writing on the wall of lies?
P.s. Corroboration does not always mean contemporaneous corroboration...for instance medical evidence...or diary notes...or going to a therapist later...as she probably know and hopes the TV host does not.
Both should know this is not a criminal trial, yet, it is a trial of character, isn't that obvious?

(82,849 posts)Gee Carrie, you may be right. Perhaps we should hear from those other witnesses. I suppose you wouldn't trust me to select an interviewer, and I don't think I'd trust you, either. Why don't we have someone from a federal bureau investigate these allegations? It's possible there's a ready-made outfit already in existence to do just that. The Supreme Court seat will still be vacant when the investigation is over, and since it's a lifetime appointment, don't you agree that it's more important to get it right than get it fast?
