What's the endgame here?

This performance was clearly intended to please his belligerent asshole of a President, and in that case was likely a smashing success. What that means is that it's going to take a GOP Senator to end this farce, and that's terrifying.

Is there something that I'm missing here? I assuming the polling is going to be awful, but Grassley and McConnell can try and avoid that by jamming the votes. And in that case, it then comes back to Flake, Collins, Murkowski, etc.

If anyone believes that he won't be put on the SC I think they are fooling themselves, especially after everything the republicans and the sociopath in the WH have done

and they don't care. Wish I was wrong and I had some hope earlier today that that wasn't the case, but I see it coming now. The fake outrage is part of their plan to make Trump and his deplorables happy.

5. It's right out of the Clarence Thomas playbook.

Anita Hill was compelling and credible; then Thomas came out all wounded and outraged, accusing Democrats of "a high tech lynching". It gave Republicans just the cover they needed to confirm, and I predict that this Republican Senate will do the exact same thing. It was a criminal sham then, and it is even more of one now.
